weird glitch with heater control lights?

Post by shryocdj »

the lights for my heat and a/c air flow (head, head+feet, feet, etc) are spuradically on and off. If i adjust the fan speed, sometimes they come on, if i turn if again, sometimes they stay on and sometimes they go off again.Anyone else seen this/know what to do?

i had that issue when i had my vibe. i just used to smack the dials and the light would come back. i never attempted to actually "fix" it.

The bulbs are probably dying... Or perhaps the contacts between the bulb socket and the HVAC control assembly. Mine was doing just that, and eventually the lights went out and wouldn't come back on.I replaced the whole HVAC control unit 'cause I broke the thing trying to get it out to replace the bulbs. It's not a fun job...

The bulbs (which it has two of) are $10 a pop from GM. They're really nothing special to warrant that sort of pricetag, they're just microscopic incandescents that are mounted in sockets. I hear Toyota has them for much less dough. The whole assembly was I think ~$120, which included new bulbs. Are you under warranty? If so, let them deal with it.
