Check your Peanut Butter!!!

Post by GrayFox »

http://www.accessnorthga.com/n...11707Quote » The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to eat certain jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter because of the risk of contamination. The affected jars have a product code on the lid that begins with the number "2111." The affected jars are made by ConAgra in a single facility in Sylvester, Ga., the FDA said.

Thanks for the tip, I found a jar with the affected lot # in our pantry. See attached. It is now in the garbage. Nobody is sick yet.

From what I have read, the recall is based on epidemiological studies that link Peter Pan peanut butter to these illness cases. I don't think that any Great Value brand were linked - they just had the same code as the Peter Pan so an assumption was made if there is something wrong with the 2111 code of Peter Pan the same would apply to the Great Value. It did not say but I think that code identifies the plant where the product was made. I have not seen any report that salmonella was ever actullay found in this peanut butter. That plant ceased production to investigate. When the final chapter is written we might find out that it was not the peanut butter. There are 288 instances in the last 6 months. How many hundreds of thousands of these jars have been consumed in the past 6 months? Looking at it that way the odds of getting sick from this peanut butter are like the odds of winning the lottery. As for me, I am skeptical as I have read that peanut butter is not a food that one would expect to have salmonella.

And the lawsuits begin! I guess as huge as ConAgra is, they've got pretty deep pockets - plenty of money to spare!http://seattletimes.nwsource.c....htmlI'm going to go dumpster diving behind Wal*Mart and see if I can find the crap they threw out and then eat 20 cans of of that crap! Woo hoo, I sue toooo! Anyway, more updates:http://www.reuters.com/article...70217
