PCM swap

Post by Tubaryan12 »

I have an '05 base and I am almost out of warranty. I only have the "hot soak" issue about once per week at most and I only have to crank it for about6-6 seconds. Even in the winter I have a combined (90/10....mostly highway) mileage of around 30 mpg with an automatic. Some of the folks that did the change are getting lower gas mileage after the change. So, should I try to get this done before I am out of wanrranty or will this still be covered after 36000 miles? Or should I leave it alone because my gas mileage is good and its not worth the risk of lowering it.

does the US have an extended emissions warranty like we do here?PCM should be covered under Emissions not 3yr/60 (or whatever the miles are)

I know US emission warranties are longer than 3yr / 36000 mile. If this part is considered part of that, then I'll quit stressing about it.

EDIT: Ok, I'm an idiot. If anyone saw my original post, I was WRONG! Per MyGMLink: 96/80000 FEDERAL EMISSION CATALYTIC CONV. AND PCM. And what's the "hot soak" issue?

Ah. That's a poorly chosen phrase IMHO. I would think hot start would be a better description. Just my $0.02 though...

Im pretty sure its the pcm's on the new DBW vibes that only have this issue. What you need to do is get the car in before your warranty expires so its on record and then if you have the issue right after the warranty expiration you can still have it covered (this goes for almost all problems) because its documented and if they didnt fix it, they have to considering hte problem happened before the warranty expired and they didnt fix it properly the first time.

I have noticed the same thing. Mine dropped about the same as yours. You would think they would tell you this before you switch.
