have a rockford P5002 ampand a kicker 15" DVC 4 ohm sub.the sub has to be in either 2 ohm or 8 ohm i believe. atleast that is what the manual said. and the amp, i dont think supports either? Well bridged anyways. I didnt realize earlier and had the goin for like 20 minutes SUPER hard. and when i touched the amp it was really hot. So does that mean I need to wire it to be 8ohm? I tried that and the bass sucked balls.Grr, i dunno what to do here. I got this amp for SUPER cheap and cant afford to get another of this quality right now. is there some kinda workaround here? or am i screwed?

That Dual Voice Coil sub was intended to be wired for two channels. Two channel amp, each channel wired to a 4 ohm voice coil. Won't be able to bridge the amp with a DVC sub because you'll be forced to wire it for 8 ohms. I've never seen one stable at 2 ohms bridged, but check the documentation for the amp to verify it won't do it.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
rockford lists it at 500watts RMS bridged at 4 ohms. doesnt have a listing for 2 ohms bridged. That must be why it was so hot? This is my first system so all i know is from reading, so I dont know much. hahaIF I just continue to run with it at 2 ohms bridged, will it be safe? Like if things start to get bad, will the amp just **** off? Or will it shut off AFTER the damage is done?thanks for the help!!!

Yeah, you'll blow the amp leaving it like that. You either need to run each coil to a channel or get a new amp. Running it the way you are, something will fail.Running a two-channel amp bridged to 2 Ohm like that is making the channels see something closer to 1 Ohm, if I understand right. You're going to burn the amp up.For a DVC, you really need a monoblock amplifier (single channel).

my sub is Dual 4 ohm Voice coils. so with it being dual 4 ohms, it can be ran at 2 ohm or 8 ohm. right now its at 2, not one.My amp is rated at 500watts RMS at 4ohms bridged. so this is now running at 2 ohms bridged. I ran it hard again today, btu i layed teh left seat down(where its mounted) and I think it helped a little. I guess more air flow. So my plan for now is to just leave that portion of the seat down while driving for longer periods of time. Id leave it down all the time but dont want anyone to try to grip my amp. haha.So if it gets to hot, will it go into some protect stage? there is a thermal led on this amp, havent seen it lit up yet though....Thanx guys, u are all AWESOME!

so far so good, it doesnt get as hot anymore. still gets pretty warm though. Hasnt shut off or went into protect mode yet either.

it went into thermal mode for the first time yesterday. I forgot to lay the seat down, and also had treh cargo cover on so no one could see my stuff. But I left the seat down and all is good again... for now. haha.
