Full spare with rim?

Post by bogey523 »

Since I had the luck of getting another flat tire, it started me thinking (uh oh, lol). My last vehicle was a 2001 GMC Jimmy, it had a full spare with matching rim. Very nice to have so that you don't have to use a donut. Having one for the Vibe would encounter a few problems. Storage? Is the bin where the donut is big enough for the full spare and rim? Of course I would have to find a rim, but it need not be matching rim, just something that would work for the time being until I get the tire fixed. I work part-time for a tire store, so I could come across a used tire relatively easily. Anyone try this or have any solutions here?

I will fit in the spare tire section, however you most likely will not be able to keep the plastic cargo storage area underneath. But you should be able to throw a spare in there, no problem. Just remove the plastic tray. You may also have to play with connecting it to the tie down either with a larger hook or longer bolt.

The donut is much lighter (saves gas) and when you use it, your much more likely to get the flat fixed asap 'cause you don't want to look at the donut on your car. Most people, with a full-size spare, have a tendency to postpone having the flat repaired 'cause the full-size spare matches the other tires/wheels and looks ok.
