Short Ram check engine light

Post by Zos Thanatos »

So, I dropped in a short ram intake last weekend, disconnected the battery cable for several minutes to reset the computer, and my check engine light came on after about 3 days. Reset the comp again, the light came back on 3 days later. Any ideas?

take some pics and post them so we can have a better ideal of the hook up you did. most likely there probably is a hose hooked up somewhere wrong

Here ya go, not much to hook up, just the air flow sensor and the PCV, ran into a snag because the line they gave me for the PCV was 3/8" vs the 5/8" stock line; ran brass fittings to couple the lines. I assume the line was for the PCV anyway since it was the only hose hooked up to the stock intake that I saw........

If it's an oiled filter, try cleaning the MAF sensor with some MAF or carb spray. Oil from the filter often gets on the sensor after a few days of use.

I had the same filter set up on a different car.. bomz right? that filter doesn't come oiled... you will need to oil that filter then let it dry before putting it back on. This might be the reason y.

the blue hose you have hooked up to the intake before the sensor. DISCONNECT IT i had the same problem, your maf sensor is getting a reading from the valve cover. just get a plug for the outlet off the intake and put a breather filter on the hose coming from the valve cover

Thanks so much! I'll drop by the store and try those fixes tomorrow......I'll post an update in a few days. I knew the filter didn't come oiled; I didn't think I sprayed too much, but cleaning that sensor couldn't hurt. I'll give the breather on the PCV a try too (what a bummer, I was so proud of my "southern engineering" on the brass fittings, too! )

Thanks again, 02csnow! Cleaned the MAF, installed the breather (it's a 3/8" female so I just put it on the brass fittings I had already installed to reduce the 5/8" hose down to 3/8") and took it around the block; so far, so good......hopefully that'll do it; now I get to play the waiting game......

i had exactly the same problem you did and it took me about 2 days to figure it out, bc if you look at the stock intake the breather hose is after the maf sensor, and with the new intake they put the port before the maf sensor. but after i took the hose off and just capped it and put the breather filter on everything has been fine and it has been about a month. but glad to help u

OT but? Southern engineering? (removed) is that? Is OK considered South? Is that a slur on the south? Not trying to pick a fight here but FL GA AL AR TN KY NC SC MS LA TX are all that qualify for south in my book. Either you consider OK to fit in with the real south (which is alright) or you just slammed southerners. Round these parts we say aint Ma'am and we are proud of it. BTW if you cannot tell my tougue is slightly planted in my cheek with this post. BTW... pardon my ignorance to this performance stuff but what exactly does the CAI accoplish? Better mileage? More HP I assume?
