Strange actually. I installed the intake, everything fit fine except a few things that are occurring.1) The original intake box had a metal tab with a sensor attached to its side. It plugged into something and had two small tubes coming from it at a 90 degree angle. One of the tubes had a green twist cap on it as well? There is no place to connect this to the new intake, where does it go and what does it do?2) Reconnected the battery and all tubing was correctly placed. All night I drove about 70 miles total this evening the car drove fine, intake sounds great, but I have a check engine light?3) Accompanied with the CEL is the fact that while sitting at idle at a stop light or sitting still, the car really idles roughly, It is almost burbling and chugging at idle. When driving it is normal? What's going on??4) Any help is greatly appreciated! Also the MAF sensor did not fit directly, it is off by a few mm on one side, I siliconed it around the edges and tightened one screw in, is this ok?So weird I have never had this issue on any other intake install I have done, so please if you have input, I would love to know.
The MAF sensor being off could be the problem or if you over oiled the filter, the MAF may have gotten some on it after driving for a while. This happened to mine and I sprayed it with carb cleaner, no problems since.Disconnect the battery before removing the MAF and when you're done and reconnect it, the CEL should be off.
see what happens when you buy an XRS sr from egay..... take it off and send it back and get yourself a good intake that won't cause you your headacke that you have now. just my 2 cents

Well the CEL is gone thank goodness. But it still idles fairly rough when sitting below 1K. I adjusted the Throttle cable for idle so it sits right at 1K just a hair above at idle in D. Should be ok for now but I want to figure out why it is so rough at normal idle.
Sounds like you have the hoses hooked up wrong.Do you have one big hose that comes from under the plastic engine cover.Or do you have a little hose that connected to the bottom of the stock air box.But I also didn't like that you had to silicone around the MAF sensor. Here is a pic of one setup of the hoses.
Take the extra tension off the cable once you figure it out. Look for an extra hole in the intake that may need to get plugged.

Strange. When I had my SR, CAI then SR again, the only hose I unhooked was the one that went to the lower half of the airbox. That is the one that went to the intake tube and I never had a problem. All other hoses stayed in their original connection locations.

The hose that came from under the plastic engine cover I put on the intake. The other two that were on that 90 degree connection piece with the flat black bottom on the sensor stayed connected. From what I see there are no other holes on the intake other than the one for the MAF and the hose.OK, well my $28 experiment went wrong, so today I am going to look for a good SRI. I'm guessing the cosmo is the best price for the bang huh?
You should be able to use the same ones from:'03-'04 Vibe Base'03-'04 Matrix Base'03-'04 Matrix XR'03-'04 Corolla SMy first SR was a Cosmo for a '04 Vibe BaseMy Ebay CAI was for a '03 Corolla SMy second SR was a Weapon-R Sectret Intake for a '03 Matrix XR.They all worked fine with zero problems.

OK so here we go. Like I said, there are only two openings in the intake tube. One is for the MAF, the other is where I connected the long tube supplied with the intake. It runs from the intake tubing to the TB under the plastic engine cover. There are a few other hoses that were on the VSV I assume its what it is. Here are the pics of those hoses. Here is the overall shot of the other connections in that area. Here is the lower part of that picture. The tube on the left (closer to the camera) is the one that goes up to the top connections in the first picture. And the upper part of that connection where the green release valve is. The top hose goes to that charcoal box thing, and the lower one goes to the connection in the picture above. Any input?
the way the hoses are situated are correct... only one hose would go back from the intake to the engine which from the photos you have done... I bet any amount of money that the problem you are having is because you had to silicone in the maf sensor. .... one last thing.. you did disconnect your neg battery cable before doing any work correct... those maf sensors are very picky and don't like to be mishandled.

I made sure to take and remove the MAF after the stock intake was removed. I put it on the pipe, then connected the intake pipe to the car, then plugged it in.the battery was disconnected for the whole time of the install.I am betting money it has to do with the MAF not being in properly. The reason it was siliconed was because both holes do not align properly, so one screw is in and then the silicone on the edge (not touching any sensor inside for a seal. I am sure it is not sealed properly or something. I also did not clean it.But the CEL is on again, and I had the idle adjusted. It sits at 1100 while in D at a stop. Anything lower than that and it gurgles, and sounds like its struggling to stay cranking.
KEV your the man, I am going to try this tomorrow. I will plug off the opening on the intake tube and the hose as well. That could be the issue. If this works I will call you Daddy for a week, lol. I am going to get the vacuum tube plug tomorrow for these. I remember bluecrush telling me about plugging a hole but I figured it would go back, guess not. Thanks again I'll post tomorrow!
OK, I disconnected the battery, plugged the holes and reconnected. Idles like normal now!KEV is now my Daddy for the next week. For now I did a temp fix. duct tape over the tube hole and the hose, I zip tied the hose. This week I will get the right thing and clean it up right. Pics when its all done. Also a special thanks to Bluecrush who told me in the first place about that hole being plugged.
