My car was mistakenly stolen back in 1964. I'd grown up in the country and the new city life where you can't trust everybody was new to me. My new wife and I parked our car in front of a hardware store, left the keys in, and went inside. When we came out, our car was gone. My wife stayed out there while I went inside and called the police to make a report. When I came outside my wife was standing there with our car. She said a guy brought it back, nervously explaining that he'd thought it was his buddy's car and wanted to teach him a lesson about leaving the keys in his car. He then took off. I'll bet he was scared ****less the instant he realized he wasn't driving his buddy's car.At least he had the decency to bring it back, rather than abandoning it somewhere and risking being arrested for stealing a car.I was the one who learned the lesson.

One of my friends had a Datsun 240Z. One night he came out of a club and got into what he thought was his car. He started it up and just before he drove away he noticed a briefcase and some other stuff in the back that was not his. He got out and saw his actual car a few parking spots up the street.
