Since I've installed my intake I've been getting a very loud rattle in the centre of the dash, up by the windshield. It seems to occur above 3500 RPM in 3rd gear. Any idea what it might be, it's driving me insane.

If it only appeared after installing an intake, most likely the culprit is the intake itself. Unless they drastically changed the piping, most of the intakes on the market come very close to the driver side strut tower. Under heavy acceleration, or when shifting gears, the engine rocks backward (toward the driver) on it's mounts. That causes the intake pipe to hit the strut tower, producing a very ugly vibration. Try sticking a piece of padding between the intake and the tower, and see if it goes away.

Well since I put on the intake the exhaust sound has gotten much deeper. I'm thinking that may be causing things to vibrate more. I will check things under the hood though to see if anything is obvious.

It would most likely be under your seat.Try sticking your fingers between the intake pipe and the tower. If you can't easily stick them between the two, I'd bet money that's your culprit.

I had a look yesterday and the only thing it's rubbing on is the plastic part of the stock intake that's still in the fender. I really can't see this being the cause of my rattle. It sounds like something is loose in the dash up around the vent/windshield. I'll keep trying to find it though.

Or was it the DRL...I can't remember. One of them, though, is forward of the steering wheel, and is notorious for rattling.

Dude what plastic piece is still left in your fender. If it started when you put the intake on,Raging has a great point about it rubbing on the strut tower, you'd probably feel that in the dash.Or the filter in the inner fender, that could touch something in there. If it's in the dash then that's a different story, and probably happened by chance.

When I removed the factory air box there is still the piping in the fender from the factory. I left that so air can still blow in from there. The rattle is definately from the dash, towards the centre. It's been driving me insane but like I said only seems to happen above 3500 rpm in 3rd, and sometimes in 4th. It is very coincidental about it happening after the intake went on. I strongly believe it's from the deepness in exhaust tone now and it's vibrating things more.

I think my door panels started getting a weird rattle at idle.Did you check if it was your keys rattling.Or change(money) in one of the compartments making that noise.

I'm positive it's not keys or money. It's definitely in the dash somewhere. I also have a bad door rattle but I know what that is. When the stereo place put my speakers in one of the screws didn't go into anything so when I tracked the rattle down to the speaker and tried to tighten it the screw just spins around. It rattles at idle, while driving along, and sometimes to certain bass frequencies. So when it gets warmer I'll have to pop the panel off again and fix it.
