Dealer recommendations in DFW???

Post by Sgt Beavis »

Hi all, This noob is lookin to be legit on this board. In other words, I'm shopping for a Vibe. I'm essentially looking for a base Vibe with and Auto tranny and just the power package. I would be greatful if ya'll could share how much you paid for your Vibes (you could interperate that statement many ways ). I would also like your recommendations for dealers if you are in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Many thanks in advance,The Beav

I got mine at Sewell Pontiac in Dallas. Talk to Jon Nance. I don't think he's there anymore as he's now sales manager at Sewell Hummer, but he can refer you to the person that took over his client base at Pontiac. I went to college with him at Texas A&M. He's a good guy.

You can also try the internet. Go to www.pontiac.com, choose your model and select build your own car. From there you can choose all the options that you want and make the car the way you want it. You can then choose to see the inventories of some pontiac dealers near you and see what they have. If one of them has something that you like, the system will help you to send them an email letting them know you are interested and what you are looking for. Someone will usually email you back within 24 hours. I have bought 3 different cars this way and saved at least $2000 off of the sticker price before ever setting foot in the dealership. Now that the 2004 model Vibes will be coming out soon, you may be able to swing an even better deal. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect Vibe for you!BTW--My Vibe stickered for just over $22,000. 2003 GT, moon and tunes pkg, pwr pkg, ABS, side airbags, cargo nets, monotone paint pkg, 6 disc in dash CD changer, pretty much lots of goodies. Got it for under $20,100 before I even negotiated on my trade-in. That was in October 2002. Should be able to get a little bit better deal now.

Hello,First time poster but I troll this message board daily.I bought my Vibe at Ewing Pontiac in Plano . I also bought my Grand AM there in 2000. They do a great job when it comes to haggling prices and they don't do the hard sell on you either.Paid $17,000 for my base vibe with the moons and tunes package.Avoid the Garland Pontiac dealership on Northwest Highway near that Fry's. When I was shopping for my Grand AM a few years ago the sales man all but called me names and told me I wasted his time by test driving a car.Good luck.

I find it particularly disgusting when dealerships decide to treat people like that. I'm glad you wasted his time then.BTW---welcome aboard the forum and congrats on "crossing over" from the land of the mute.

Sgt B - my VIBE purchased late January 03 is just the base with power pkg, auto tranny and the monotone. MSRP $18,690. Dealer discount was $1,056. Rebate was $2,000 plus at the time GM Card had a special $2002 rebate so I walked away at $13,632 plus tax & title. There still is a $2,000 rebate and recently was a $1,000 GM Loyalty rebate but don't know if that is still current. Don't know if you have a GM car in your household - seems to me it might be worth buying a $75 GM junker one day, and the VIBE the next if you can get the added $1,000. [The dealer disc. of $1,056 was supposedly based on a $49 over invoice deal but who knows what hidden incentives the dealer might have kept. Invoice is not the KBB invoice - it also includes the typical advertising charge(s)] IMO in the long run whether you get a $1,000 discount of a $700 discount it doesn't make that much differene. Hope this helps.

I know everyone recommends ABS brakes, but I have driven almost 45 years without ABS and while I don't mind the initial extra cost the complexity and cost of repairs down the road scares me.

Well, you've driven without airbags and numerous other safety devices for the past few decades, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't embrace technology that makes cars safer. ABS is a good system and I haven't personally heard of any software or hardware failures. It's a relatively simple system that shouldn't require maintenance down the road. Time to embrace the 21st century.

Perhaps if I drove 117.3 mph I'd reconsider the ABS Brakes

quote:Perhaps if I drove 117.3 mph I'd reconsider the ABS Brakes Jacke75: Next fall after the first snow fall ask your dealer to let you try out a ABS equipped car. Take it to a deserted lot somewhere, get up to 20 mph or so, hit the brakes hard and then try to steer the car into a different direction. You will find you have not lost your control, you don't have to threshold brake. In a panic situation you just have to concentrate on your avoidance manoevers. You also get feedback from the system, some ABS relay noise or pedal pulsing, to advise you of the slippery conditions.I have had ABS since my 1990 Acura Integra with great success. I had one computer failure fixed under warranty on my 1992 Civic, otherwise have had no trouble at all. ABS has been tested to destruction by car companies for 20 years to avoid liability and are as reliable as your radio.Give them a try.

OK Frosty - I believe you, and perhaps if I had a choice between two identical cars on the lot, one with and one without the ABS, I'd go with the ABS. Unfortunately, that wasn't my situation so I'll have to live without ABS for a while longer. Perhaps like airbags and seatbelts, what is needed is for ABS to become a government mandated feature. That would also bring the price down.
