I'm not exactly sure if this is the same thing, but I have a small (6"x4" approx.) piece of clear plastic on the lower monotone cladding in front of the rear wheel wells. One side is clear, but the other looks a little yellowed-out. Over the winter, it does not look like that area took any bad beating considering I did drive in the slag and salt they dump around this area.I'll try to snap a pic when I get home, unless someone else beats me to it.Honestly, I never checked another monotone Vibe (or two-tone for that matter) to see if they also had the same plastic film.
Nick, you do have it on there. I have it as well. My dealer said it will help protect it for a while. If it starts bubbling or peeling, it can be removed.

I put some cleaner wax on the "yellowed" side and it did improve somewhat. There is a TSB out there about replacing the body moldings due to road debris.quote:Wheel House Opening Molding Discolored (Replace Molding) #02-08-111-005 - (09/10/2002)Wheel House Opening Molding Discolored (Replace Molding)2003 Pontiac VibeConditionSome customers may comment that the rear wheel house opening molding or the rear door lower molding is discolored.CauseRoad debris contacting the molding may discolor the moldings.CorrectionReplace the moldings and clips.By this description, this does sound like the portion I was referring to.
I stand corrected. It appears that Pontiac actually did do this. I guess it was to protect the paint and not the cladding since unpainted cladding doesn't have this. For those who want to add it to their 2-tone cladding or replace the factory decal, go here:http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.jsp? ... search.y=9
I thought it was a paint defect when I first saw the piece in front of the right rear wheel opening (at delivery). Then I noticed that it was ll over the lower cladding. Mine's black, so no signs of yellowing. I will have to be careful not to leave any wax on the edge when I was it this spring...

I do indeed have this coating on my Vibe. It does not, however, look clear. I looks as though it is the ssame color as my paint (Abyss). Can you just peel this stuff off if you want to?Jim
