From what I've read: DVD shrink works well but it is no longer updated so some of the newest encryptions (in particular, Sony, I believe) have thrown some curves that this program won't deal with. There is a program called DVDfab that is also available in a free version that is continually updated to deal with evolving technology and programs. Again, this is just what I've read.

Forgot the other part of your question. As far as burning software, any new computer you buy with a DVD burner already built into it should come with some sort of burning software (usually Roxio or Nero). I've used Roxio for the last 5 years or so without any major problems. I've read forums where some people swear by Nero and others call it junk while some people love Roxio and others call it the worst software every made. I'm sure there are other programs for burning out there but none that I've used or read about. Hope this helps.

I use DVD shirink with Anydvd running in the backround, which then automatically burns with my nero. I Have over 300 movies i made backups of with maybe one coaster that i can remember. anydvd is not free but I can send you the registration key if you want. let me know
Like everyone else, I usually use dvdshrink if I'm looking to copy a dvd(9or5) to a single dvd5. Barring setting up an actual encoding program like DVD Rebuilder with CCE, it's the best choice I've found that doesn't cost a fortune and doesn't take a day to encode.I like DVDFab Gold if you're looking to split an episode type DVD9 to two DVD5s.There are decrypters that you can use to remove the encryption. DVD Decrypter may work if you can still find a version of it around. Otherwise, look for a copy of ISOburn. It's a modified version of DVD Decrypter that might work. I haven't really used it, though.
I have used 123copydvd that I bought at staple and it did work great for a while while i ran dvd43 in the back ground.but it stoppped working and I have tried 4 times to grt it fix but 123copy dvd support is bad. They always tell me to email them proof of my purchase and they'll give me new codes. then I sent them in and they tell me to try something else and it never works and if i would like new codes to send them proof again. so what ever you do dont buy 123 copydvd.
