Barbaro Euthanized

Post by Kari »

I just saw on the news that Barbaro, the Kentucky Derby winner, was euthanized this morning. How sad, especially after he seemed to be doing so much better then had the huge setbacks this week and new surgeries and such.

I'm always much more sad to hear of an injured/dead animal than I am to hear about the same for a human.

Yeah, that dead animal was never disrespectful or shot the finger at you but the human probably did.

Along the same lines as this...I was at a Home Show here in Pittsburgh (Monroeville) over the weekend. They had some representatives there from one of the organizations that deals with greyhounds. It's a similar situation. For those who aren't aware, what normally happens with these dogs is that they are raised and bred for racing. Then, once their racing career is over, either through lack of success or from "old age" (usually at the ripe old age of 2 or 3), one of two things usually happens to them. One, if they're really lucky, and they were really successful racers, they may get used for breeding for a litter or two. Two, if they're unlucky, they are usually euthanized. There's almost nothing wrong with them health-wise. They're destroyed simply because the owners don't want to deal with them. These organizations try to make arrangements with owners to rescue the dogs before they're put down so they can be adopted out for pets.An extremely sad practice.

let me enlighten you all with a surprising response, now that i have been properly adjusted. in other words, in my natural state.i know my comments were harshed and seem insensitive. anyone who has read my posts knows that i have a little shih tzu and she is the apple of my eye, since i have no kids. because i like them, i took about 10 various pictures of horses when i went to visit the new salem village near springfield, IL. here are a couple of the buggers havin' some grub:i think it is sad the poor guy passed on. if it weren't for gamblers, that horse would still be alive. let's be honest, horse racing wouldn't really exist without them. to think that this horse had a good life is a bit naive. his life was racing and that was it. you think he ever got to just chill out and be a horse? hell no he didn't.i think it's even more sad that after all this media attention, noone brings up the fact that this happens all too often all in the sake of hoping to make a quick buck while getting hammered and cursing at the horses when they lose.what about all those poor animals we all love to see at the zoo? you think they enjoy life at all? to think so would be foolish.all in all, perhaps i was a bit harsh earlier. i was at work, and due to trying to quit smoking, i was a bit on edge to begin with. i appoligize for my comments, but don't take them back. i still think the glue comment was funny. keep this in mind: when people like anna nicole smith's husband die, you don't say, "man that's a shame". instead, you wait for the daily show or the likes to make some good one liners, and that's a human being.

"i appologize for my comments, but don't take them back. i still think the glue comment was funny." Hummmmm, going from bad to worse. Here's another one that wouldn't think it was funny. Gretchen Jackson, Barbaro co-owner, said "certainly, grief is the price we all pay for love".When you get home tonight, give your little dog a very special hug and don't ever take 'her being there' for granted. We lost our beloved chihuahua 5 weeks ago tomorrow. It happened in a blink-of-an-eye and we didn't have a chance to say good-bye. If only we could hold him one more time.Tune in to Animal Planet rather than The Daily Show.....much more educational......and your picture is great.

as a matter of fact, i dare you to tell me you gave a crap about barbaro before this now infamous story. not "i care about all animals" either, cause then you would have to mourn every mouse, rat, etc. killed. it makes me sick how many people sent the damn horse letters and crap. did he read those? 99% of the people who wrote him only heard of him because of the news. a police horse that dies would be a true hero, but they wouldn't get the media attention, so noone cares.the thing that erks me is people who are pretending, just to make themselves feel better. bleeding hearts that need a cause.
