I use Outlook as my main email client at home and work, BUT I also have Yahoo, and Gmail, in fact i use the POP3 Gmail on my Mac.Outlook 2003 is great when it works; someday I find out why mine quit working. I'm having to use Outlook XP right now, because MS won't renew my license from my old desktop PC at work, and the owner won't let me buy another license....

I still use my MSN email even though I don't have MSN anymore. And I believe they are affiliated with Hotmail.

Naturally I was the one who added the Linux choice. I use that for my pop3 stuff, use gmail/yahoo/operamail for web based e-mail, and yay, Lotus Notes at the workstead. I've got Mail set up on the mac, but I never use it.

I used Netscape when I first got into this stuff, a bunch of years ago, now I use Firefox for browsing, and Thunderbird for my personal e-mail.T-bird is simple enough for what I need it for.

I use yahoo for my day to day e-mail. However, I access it through Thunderbird. So, that was the option I chose.

I had used Outlook for a while, but switched to Outlook Express a while back. Then recently my work network security folks implemented a change, and it turns out almost all the other email client software packages support it, but Outlook and Oultook express don't. So, this week I switched over to Moilla Thunderbird, and I like it so far.

Aren't you guys worried that your Hotmail, Gmail, or MSN accounts basically means THEY own your content and can maniplulate, sell or spy on you legally cause you signed away any privacy?

Pretty much unless you run your own mail server, there is always a chance of having no privacy. And that is only on the server. You are probably more at risk from spyware, viruses, or someone listening on the network. At least google's gmail runs over https , which is encrypted so people can't snoop your packets. However, most people who use POP3 are sending their username, password, and all email back and forth unencrypted. Mail going from one mail server to anotherr is not encrypted.Probably the best chance for privacy is just getting lost int he sheer volume of email traffic out there on the net. For some of the huge free email providers, they have so many accounts, the chance of them picking on you is smaller. Also, google makes all kinds of statements about their mail service. They have robots that scan your mail, but only to target content relevant ads (the cost of free email) but they are pretty adamant in denying any other privacy invasion.Still, anything done on a computer tends to leave tracks, and an email sent to one person may end up being forwarded to ten million, so it's a good idea to be careful what you put in emails, no matter who the service provider is.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-This wekend I was playing with mozilla's subird calendar program, and the "lightning" extension that embeds it into Thunderbird. A lot like the calendar options in Outlook.

Very true, you can expect no security when using someone's else's server, I've got my own, well, I'm sysadmin at work My probems is not with security but privacy. I know a lot of people with Hotmail and Gmails and they don't even think about the fact their e-mail actually belongs to Google or Microsoft. This includes your attachments, images, content (text) personal thoughts, stupid thoughts, rash ideas or brilliant prose. While I can have a resonable expectation of no security using email, we should have the resonable expectation of privacy that my content belongs to me and that no one else can benefit, vis-a-vie corporate data mining, selling to foreign countries or even Homeland Security.I work with some political activist and it absolutly astounds me how stupid they are that they share detailed information using Hotmail. Ok, I don't want to hijack the thread.Outlook: My favourite except handling the pst file can be problematic. It is great when things are contained but any corruption and the single PST file can be shot. All is lost.Thunderbird: FANTASTIC, IMAP/POP/Local folders are in individual folders so corruption can be contained and transfering account using the backdoor provides flexible options.Mozilla: No longer supported. Dump it and go to Thunderbird.Groupwise: Good, similar good as Outlook with an Exchange server. I'm still working on it and I have mixed views. Jury is stil out.Outlook Express. Not realy worth discussing. I've never had much success excpet for the Newsreader.Web-based Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo mail. Reliable, to a point, problems can include some spam filters block yahoo accounts and there is still questions about how reliable the email address is if inactive for a period.Andrew

While at work I use Lotus Notes,At home I have a few, lol. I use Hotmail for random stuff (pics, jokes, etc.) but Hotmail gets a ton of spam.I love my Gmail for ordering stuff online and more important things since I literally get no spam from them.
