AUX Idea... any input?

Post by Vibr8tr »

I am trying to decide on my AUX in. I got the AUX12-... well.... whatever the model number is. And I am going to install it soon. What I want is just a plug in the coinholder in the center, or in one of the blank areas on the left of the stearing wheel. I have two ideas that I want to do.1), leave it the RCA plugs, and keep a "Headphone to RCA" cable in my glove box.2) Get a RCA to female phone jack, and have it a headphone jack, and keep a male to male headphone cable in the glove box.I don't know if any of that made sence and I can explain more if needed. But I wondered what anyone thought of those ideas.

not sure i'd go with #2....especially in the coin holder.my coin holder always gets filled up with dust/crumbs/etc....i'd hate for it to be a female phone jack! What about a male phone jack and then either put your mp3 player right on it (if it's tiny) or carry a female to mail. That way you have a small post there instead of a hole which can fill up with crap.

I did exactly that- stereo headphone socket in center console. Here's the whole how to thread. http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Good thinking. Now that I really think about it, mine is full of crap too. That would have been bad.... well.... maybe I will come up with something else. I just know I want it so I can just unplug the cable and hide it when I am not using it.

Also, what are peoples thoughts on spot too while I am thinking about it. My ideas so far are.... the two I already mentioned (the coin holder and next to steeringwheel), inside the armrest compartment, Glove box, the little hole/cubby under the shifter, or last but not least, right in the back of the center consol so people in the back could plug things in too? Then is the next question is should I have only one or should I get a splitter and have two?

I like the centre console idea as it'll allow you to put your mp3 player into a cup holder.i've seen some on here do the cable in the cubby under the shifter idea. that way it all tucks away nicely when not in use...but you pull out the cable to reach the cup holder when using it. i like this idea too.if you have nice speakers in the back and have had the back hatch open at parks/etc. to listen to music, you might do the split and put one cable all the way to the back. that way you can plug in your mp3 player in the back and have control there (instead of going into the front seats everytime you want to change/adjust music.centre is best all around as it will allow driver and/or passenger(s) to use the mp3 player.my thoughts on the subject!

Couple thoughts:- If you put a female 1/8" stereo plug in a blank next to the coin slot, it won't get so dirty as being in the coin slot.- I think the switch blanks for the left of the steering wheel also fit into the cutout for the coin slots in the center console (next to the front cupholder). You could pop out the coin holder and put a connector in a blank in there.

That's a thought too.... I am thinking of doing both now, gettign a splitter (I will loose some volume with most splitters) and having a headphone jack in the center consol and in the area to the left of the steering wheel. So when I am alone, I can use the one next to the steering wheel, and when the wife is there (Cause she is in control of the radio.....), then she can use the one in the center.... and maybe I can get some sort of "cover" or plug for the center one when not in use.

It depends on what you are going to use for an AUX audio source, and where you will put it whenin use. put a female jack near there so you can reduce the amount of wire hanging around. If you are going to keep your device in or near the center console, then put the jack there. You can get a long wire to connect the device to the jack, so you probably don't need to have two jacks, but as long as you don't want to use two jacks at the same time, you can just tie the two jacks together without having to get a splitter, or use a jack that disconnects the other when you plug something in to it.So, what device do you plan to use, and when you are driving, where will that device be?

All I have is my MP3 player that will most likely be in the center consol or cupholder, cause that is where I am used to it with my FM mod. I think I am going to Nix the idea of the left of the steering wheel, cause I would want to put it in the little compatment over there, but that is my Cig holder (and lord knows we can't move the smokes). I guess I was just looking for things that no one else has done, and would make my Vibe special and that I could "show off"..... we will see.
