You'll need a GM PassLock interface module. Depending on what system you go with will determine which interface module you need.

According to my resources, 98 Cavaliers did use the passlock system. You will need a bypass module for it or the RKE system won't be able to start the car. Passlock is the system that disables the fuel pump and/or engine if the wrong key or no key is used to start the car. It's an anti-theft feature.

best thing you can do is talk to whoever is selling it to you. chances are, they will know all that good stuff.

well the salesman might not know, but if you talk to the techs at the install bay (their office desk thing) they should be able to tell you any details.
