Hi everyone. My 2001 Honda Odyssey’s transmission died at 121,000 miles. Since there have been so many known problems with second, even third transmissions on this model, I decide to trade it for Vibe.I hate to admit it but I didn’t even know Vibe existed until about a month ago. (Sorry.) My friend owns a Pontiac dealer so I decided to check it out. Turned out, Vibe was the Pontiac’s best kept secret. (I am trying to tell Pontiac to advertise more. This is a great car.) It had almost everything I wanted & more. The price was right. I am very pleased with my new car.Oh, it’s 06 Western Edition Vibe with prem. monotone appear pkg, auto transmission, remote keyless entry, power door locks, power windows, cruise control, Sun and Sound package, integrated subwoofer, 16" aluminum wheels. The color is moonstone. This was the last 06 on the lot with a sunroof. So I gave up the stealth color I wanted. Although I don’t mind moonstone. (A picture attached.)I hope to keep it for about 3 years and plan to give it to my daughter. (She loves it, too.)Now for my question (you know every new member has a question), I know this car was sitting in the lot for a while. It was built in Mar. 06. I don’t have any problem with anything but should I take it in for an oil change earlier than recommended? I was planning to take it in at 2,000 miles give or take. Does anyone know about cars sat in a lot for while? I already put about1,000 miles in 10 days. I appreciate your assistance.
well, on any new car, it's not a bad idea to have the oil changed at 1000 miles. new cars tend to have all sorts of gunk in the engine (it's new). good to change all the gunk out and start fresh. then at that point, i'd do every 3000 miles a good oil change. after about 10K miles or more, you may want to consider mobile 1 full synthetic as well. i run Royal Purple full synthetic on my LGT, but i think it'd be overkill for the vibe. Mav runs Mobile 1 on his vibe and we've had great luck with it, no problems. welcome to the site and thanks for posting pics on your very first post! you must know we love pics!
welcomeWhen I purchace my left over 06 it already had 100miles which I am sure were put on the car very hard.... i.e. lots of test drives on the odometer. I didn't wait very long to change the oil. I changed the oil at 1500 miles. I also changed the oil to Mobil 1.

Wow, what a beautiful color, very nice choice and just think about it, there are a ton of people out there that don't know about the Vibe, and the Vibe would most likely be perfict for them. Anywho, Welcome to GenVibe!

Opening up the oil change topic is one of the most controversial. In your sitution already you have gone beyond the oil mfg. guidelines for changing oil, because its more than three months old, and the car was probably only run for a short amount of time, another, no no for the oil. So I would say if you have a 1000 on it go ahead and change it, to get any break in debris out. And if you deciede to go synthetic stay with the Pontiac. guidelines in the manual for changing it. Don't extend or reduce your intervals just because you use synthetic.
Welcome to the site. It would be a good idea to get the oil change btw 1500 and 2000 miles. There are a few people on this site that got vibes that had been on the lot for a while before they bought them.
I bought the Vibe with 328 miles on it and changed the oil at 335. Most of the grinding and wear known as engine break-in occurs within the first 100 miles or so. After that, your piston rings should seat fine, etc. However, there are so many more things that have extended break-in periods - brakes, trannies, etc. that you need to make sure to give it a 1000 or two miles before you really just let her loose. All that being said, it shouldn't ever hurt you to change oil more frequentlt, unless of course someone screws something up. If I could drive around town with a 100 gallon oil tank on the back of the car, I'd do it because it'd be nothing but clean oil...

Thanks for all the post!!! I love this forums. I will be heading to get my oil changed within next day or so. I have a 400 mile trip coming up this weekend so better to get it done. (Yes, I have to take it somewhere. I am mechanically challenged.) I am also very careful with my Vibe. I can't wait to see what this little car can do. As for "Western Edition Vibe", it seems to include prem. monotone appear pkg, auto transmission, remote keyless entry, power windows & locks & cruise control. I am in California so these options are most desirable by us in Western states?!?Great to meet all of you nice people out there!!!

Sounds like a dealer ploy to me.. are the words wester edition vibe on the window sticker?I have all of the above like you and mine didn't say anything like that. Unless gm is playing a word game with us.

I am also in cali and the dealer also gave my vibe the label "western edition" I however do not have the sunroof or sound package. The sales rep told us "western edition" was to indicate the monotone color. No additional price was added
Hi,I should have written "06 Vibe with Western Edition Vibe option" (still doesn't sound right); however, the words "Western Edition Vibe" was on the window sticker where options & price were listed. The sunroof and sound package were not the part of the "Western Edition Vibe" option. Whatever it is, I still love it!!!
