04 Matrix Delco radio in 04 Vibe?

Post by sfarias »

1. Anyone know if it will work? From what I've read, Toyota changed the radio in 05, but I am assuming the 04 (still made by Delco) will work in an 04 Vibe?2. Can the single-cd version be replaced by the 6-disc changer version?3. What is needed when you install an OEM radio to replace an OEM radio (other than fit and cables, etc)? Do you have to pay the dealer to reset it or something? If so, is it somethin I can do with my ODBC code reader? Any info appreciated.

#1, yes, it will work! the 2005+ won't but you're already on top of that.#2: yes, going from single disc to changer will work just fine, plug it in and you're done.#3: nothing is needed to make it work, just plug it in and viola. no trips to the dealer. However, just be sure that whatever radio you get came out of a Vibe/Matrix and nothing else. Pontiac had other cars that took radios that looked quite identical, but those will not work due to the data bus system being present in those cars but not the Vibe.

OK, first the good news: I got the 04 Matrix 6-cd Delco in my 04 Vibe and it works. Except the old (single-CD) readio had XM and the 6-disc one I put in does not.I thought the XM module was external to the radio, i.e. I thought that when I put in the 6-disc and connected the same cable harnesses that were connected to the sold radio, I would dtill have XM. No???

IIRC, XM was never an option on the Matrix.Assuming that's true. Delco most likely supplied non-compatible radios to Toyota for use in their car at a lower price than the XM-ready units would have cost...

That might explain it. Fortunately, I do not currently subscribe to XM, but I would l have liked to have the option in the future without an FM system. Perhaps if I open the radio and figure out hw to activate the XM part ;-)Anyone else have a Matrix radio with XM?
