http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/....reut/Quote »TOKYO (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp. plans to recall about 533,000 Sequoia SUVs and Tundra pickup trucks in the United States to repair faulty components that could make the vehicles difficult to steer.Six injuries and 11 accidents were reported as a result of the defect, Japan's top automaker said Friday.Toyota, on its way to becoming the world's biggest auto maker ahead of General Motors Corp., has vowed to step up its quality efforts after a rise in vehicle recalls and increased scrutiny from Japanese media over quality issues. The latest recall covers certain 2004 to 2007 model year Sequoias and 2004 to 2006 model year Tundras, both built at Toyota's Indiana plant, the automaker's U.S. sales unit said in a statement.Of course, everything I've read about it thus far was showing this recall in a good light. "Toyota makes perfect vehicles, they're not going to be damaged by this recall at all!" Golly gee! Had it been GM, Ford, Chrysler, or, well anyone that isn't Honyota for that matter we'd have to read over and over about how big of pieces of crap they are.

" Toyota, on its way to becoming the world's biggest auto maker ahead of General Motors Corp., has vowed to step up its quality efforts after a rise in vehicle recalls and increased scrutiny from Japanese media over quality issues."I noticed that the scrutiny came from the Japanese media, not American. Then again, I guess that would be like Pat Robertson scrutinizing Jesus.Sorry Jesus, no offense!

"Steering difficulty" aka steering wheel locking up and you careening off a cliff. I love they way they describe problems in trying to make the public not panic.
It's sort of funny how many people have this "Anti-American" persecution complex. I'm arguing with a couple of meatheads in another forum because they're giddy like school girls about this Toyota recall. I don't get it: Cars are highly technical consumer products; all manufacturers experience problems and recalls. It's dumb to get on Toyota when you know Ford/GM/DC is going to have a major recall in the future. I mean, hello? Setting yourself up for failure? So Toyota had a big recall, big deal. They're fixing the problem, they've got the money set aside to deal with recalls, and it's not going to have any impact upon their sales and resale value. Other than inconveniencing Toyota owners, it'll have no long-term impact on anything. Do you really think Toyota owners are gonna jump ship to the domestics over these things? Let's not get naive here...
I agree that no manufacturer can make a perfect car, and American cars have had their share of problems (especially those from the 80's). I just get so tired of the car magazines bias. They act as if the Japanese cars can do no wrong. If an American company makes a compact car, it's cramped and under powered. if a Japanese company makes a compact car, economical and highly fuel efficient. I've seen it so many times that I rarely pick up those magazines any more.

i have to agreeeveryone makes a lemon once and awhile (ford just does it more often!!!)toyota is setup and ready for this stuff they are not stupid they knew it would happen one day. plus with all the problems microsoft has had did it hurt them heck no!toyota may feel a bump but thats about it
Well, the car magazines/motoring press know their audience. I mean, they wouldn't write so favorably about Asian cars if their readership suffered as a result; likewise, it's amazing that people rail against this bias and still buy/subscribe to these magazines. And for the record, the American motoring press has NOTHING on bias like the Germans. Ratings almost always go:MercedesBMWAudiVWOpelEverybody else...BTW: I just read an article gushing with praise about the new Aveo. Pretty much all positives...except the price ($14K). The thing that caught my eye is that it has 108hp; I'd better not go pink slips with an Aveo anytime soon.
