just curious if it is even necessary to spend the $ upgrading my internals if I'm planning on staying N/A. I would consider myself to be pretty hard on the car (pedal meets the floor pretty often ) so I just wanna make sure everything in that engine will hold up all right for as long as possible. If it is necessary to get aftermarket internal pieces, then I'm definately down for that. I truly don't know hardly anything on upgrading this stuff, so I'm hoping some of u guys do. lol
if your planing on staying n/a probably not. you should be fine with stock nternals. depending on what youre running( pfc,etc) you might want to look into a a new head with pnp, upgraded vavle springs and such. but also not neccesary if youre just going with a few bolt ons

Port & Polish(PnP) the cylinder head, for only $1000-1500, to allow better air flow. Which I wouldn't bother with unless you are going to go with aftermarket Piper cams, for only $1000, and upgraded valve springs & retainers for only $500, in which you would need to upgrade to the Hydra standalone ECU, for only $1500. So only about $4500 when you could hav gotten a turbo for that much and had twice the power. lol. You'll be better off staying with what you have and getting a Unichip to make everything run better, smoother and faster. Less headaches. Call it a day and enjoy the drive!

lol, alright.well, this is a bit off topic then, but I just feel like I want to get one more performance mod done before I get a unichip. Do u still think I should get my intake manifold ported?
if your staying NA then engine internals are a maybe. I think there are cams you could get (not too hard to install) that would be a nice NA mod. Otherwise a full ecu management system would be the best so you can tune your lift. Also if you havent had your exhaust manifold ported and polished, boosted2.0 on newcelica does that and the gains are impressive (for the 2zz). then just the basic bolt ons for a good NA hp/torq. OH yea and get a super nice clutch, i hear that can help. Also look into the motor mounts, makes your car vibrate a little more but keeps wheel hop down.

I got the EM ported and I love it. so thanks for that recomendation by the way. lol. And yeah I'm gonna look into a clutch sometime in the near future. and how in the heck would install the engine mounts? would u have to lift the engine?
OH you did get your EM ported! sweet, boosted is actually looking into the IM now to port, but I havent checked his thread in a couple months so not sure how far he got. But the GT IM is pretty good for porting he said and would only be a small improvement. The engine mounts (2 of them with the eesm) From what I read you take like a normal jack you use for you car and pump up some spots just to hold the engine while you swap engine mounts, I hear it doesnt take too long if you have some one help and if you read the DIY on matrixowners so you know excactly how to slide them in and out. some people have problems with the back one. mounts are only like 20-30 bucks too. I would do this but the 1zz doesnt have premade mounts, just the 2zz manual ...well for you though! hahha.
the mounts should be the same across the board. i have them on my 5-speed. you really dont need a jack cause the side mounts still hold the engine. then just do one at a time. should take about an hour. i think theres a install thread somewhere on this board.whle youre doing the clutch get a lightweight flywheel too.

Screw the intake porting. Go old school with individual throttle bodies w/ velocity stacks! And with the internals. Stroker kit to a 2.0 liter. Cams and valve train.

Internals wouldn't be completely necessary if your just going bolt-ons. However, the weak link in the 2ZZ is the oil gear. It just can't keep up with the high-revs for an extended amount of time. Not sure if anyone has stepped up to produce an aftermarket one or not. I'm sure there is as the Elise seems to be bringing some good names and parts to the powerplant.I'm assuming that this is what happened to my motor. Rebuilt mine with MWR heavy-duty complete bearing kit.
