when I got my rims they were filled with Nitrogen and honest, i didnt see or feel any difference between that and air..lol

I've heard of it, but wouldn't bother paying extra for it. Supposed to be good for race cars, but we're talking Vibes here. I expect it is a ploy by tire shops to invent a new thing to charge people for. I'd look into it more but right now I've got to go rotate my spark plugs and change the headlight fluid.

I'll get in done once I get my bad muffler bearing changed...Seriously, though, I have heard of this. A friend of mine is a diesel mechanic and I guess with semis it helps to balance the tires better. Supposedly, another advantage is no condensation. finally, the nitrogen gas is supposed to hold it gaseous state better over a variety of temperatures, thereby not causing a loss in air pressure in cold weather or gain air pressure in warmer temperatures.I am skeptical, but from a scientific point of view, it does make sense.

Sometime ago I suggested (tongue in cheek) that you would want to use helium in your tires - less weight and gives you some "lift". Surely a 10% increase in mph for sure!

Well i can say i have it done on my vibe.......i had it installed on my new falkans 512's.and the it has helped with the tire wear.......it keeps the tire cooler on long highway drives.....and because nitrogen is bigger the oxygen, the tire should/will not lose air.for a couple extra $'s it is really worth it.and not just on the vibe but any car or truck.

There was a big long post on this about a year ago. Nitrogen does have some benefits in aircraft where the tires are subject to extremely low temperatures and low pressure atmosphere at high altitudes - and on race cars where tires temperatures are very high during racing conditions. However on a street driven car there is not much benefit. You will wear your tires out long before you get into any problems caused by corrosion from the small amount of moisture in the air filled tires and you will never get your tires warm enough to have problems with pressure changes caused by heat. Check your tire pressure occasionally and you will have tires that work just as well as those that are nitrogen inlflated. The atmospheric air that is compressed to fill your tires with air is already 78 percent nitrogen - so how much is getting the other 22 percent converted to nitrogen worth?Dave

Our GM dealers are filling up tires with nitrogen at no extra cost when you take your car in for maintenance, i.e oil changes, etc.

The place I got my new tires at this past summer fills them with nitrogen for free. I'm not sure if it really makes a difference though, either gas mileage or ride-wise. But hey, if it's free, I'll do it. I don't think I'd pay extra though.

All the Costco's here in Canada use Notrogen to fill new tires they sell for free,, you can alway tell who bought Costco tires since they have green air vlv caps,, Cheers, B
