18" Rims

Post by latina_qt »

I want to buy some 18" Rims with a tire that looks more rim and less tire? Any suggestions on what brand of rims and what kind of tires that I should get to get that look that I want?

go to discounttiresdirrect.com they have a cool feature where you can see their rims on any vehicle. they have free shipping and if you get tires and rims, they mount and balance them for free. i got mine like in 5-6 days, ups.

Do you have a moonroof? If yes, then I must warn you that GM/Toyota tested the moonroof with 17" rims (or larger I guess) and hard cornering resulted in cracked or shattered moonroofs. It has something to do with the more aggressive tires and the weaker structure of the moonroof during flexing.

I have a moonroof and will be putting on at least 17" rims for summer driving. I also want to get a stabilizer bar before I do that though to counteract the flexing in the car. I am unsure if I want to go any larger than 17" because of how hard the car would ride with even lower profile tires.

Check out these threads for some good info regarding the moonroof and 17"+ wheels:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... d?id=2470I have not personally seen any real-life problems relating to this issue on any boards. I am not saying it is not possible however.

That's a good question. If it is something that you put on your car to cause damage in their eyes anyways, they probably would not cover it. But I am not sure. Best advice is to not take corners really hard I guess.BTW meathead, nice choice of rims. I used to have the same rims on my '95 Eclipse but mine were 16". I liked them a lot. I like the pics you have posted on your Cardomain page. I am looking at some Enkei 5+ 17" with 235/45-17's Nitto 555.

The owner is responsible for aftermarket modifications. Since the larger rims put the vehicle "out of factory spec", then GM/Toyota's hands are clean on this one.

I have had 18's with the moon roof and have had no probs so far. I have had it like that for about 6 months now, with crappy NM roads and throwing it into the corners every chance I get, no busted sun roof here. Maybe I am just lucky (I doubt it being stationed here for 3 years) but who knows....

http://www.tirerack.com has a similar site where you can try the wheels on your car; might be a few that are different from Discount Tire's.

All you need to look for is a rim that extends all the way passes the lip. I decided on 18in Motegi MR7's they look good. and it is more rim and less tire

I am trying to decide between the Monetegi MRM, Velox VX-k gunmetal center w/machined lip or Konig holes graphite center w/ machined lip. I want 18's with progress springs My Vibe should look tight!!!!

I like them (in silver more) but the look that I'm looking for is for a rim that doesn't show the breaks and all that stuff (would you say a thicker rim?).

I don't think I would call it thicker or thinner, I'd just say I wanted rims that had more "wheel-type-stuff". Seriously, you're just looking for a rim with bigger spokes/structures coming out from the hub and going to the lip. Something kind of similar to the factory rims, which don't have many gaps to see the brakes, right?I tend to be of a similar sentiment. I still want my brakes visible, but I don't want the skinny little spokes that seem out of place on our beast of a car.
