Had the first oil change done on the VIBE today and I asked the dealer what he thought about using synthetic oil. He said that even if you use synthetic oil, you still MUST change the oil at 5000 kilometers, or you void the warranty. He was speaking for Toyota and the Matrix, even though I have a VIBE. I'm not sure what GM's policy is on synthetic oil use and the warranty. If you have to change the oil at 5000 kilometers regardless of whether it is Dino oil or Synthetic oil, I can't see the advantage of spending the extra money on Synthetic. I like the idea of synthetic and believe that it is a far superior product and I have learned the many benefits of using synthetic from this forum, but geesh, if the manufacturer refuses to cut you any slack, why bother?
I think the Toyota dealer is just crapping. at least here in U.S., regular oil change is at 7500 miles, I don't see how it would void warranty with 5000km+ oil changes. with Vibe, you will do just fine changing oil at 7500 miles, the car will fall apart long before the engine (a Toyota engine at that) does.

This is totally not true and is actually against the law what he told you, but many dealers lie about either because they want you to come back more often for oil changes making them more money or are very uniformed about Federal Law.Either way here are some facts about warranty and oil changes. This can also be used for mods as well.http://www.twocom.com/high_performance_ ... gnuson.htm
