Best head unit w/ aux. input on the front?

Post by jkm311 »

Vibers, I am trying to decide on a simple head unit w/the aux. input on the front. What is your favorite, and why do you like it? Thanks!p.s. If you happen to have a pic of how the install looks, even better!

Some older Panasonics and a lot of JVCs have front inputs. You'll get a lot more variety if the 'front' part doesn't matter and you just wire a long RCA -> Miniplug adapter from behind the dash, then Pioneers also come into play (and I think some Alpines)

I'm very happy with my Sony CDX-GT300. The only problem I had with it was when I tried to put a brand new CD in and it wouldn't play, even though the CD plays in various other players. Only one CD and I use my iPod 99.99999% of the time anyway. Now that I have it, I'm actually thinking of pulling it out, putting a hole in the back of the tray below the radio and then poking a wire though that way.Looks like the replacement for the CDX-GT300 is the CDX-GT510.

Looks like Sony is leading the list. Not to mention that the red button capability matching the "Pontiac red" works for me, too!

I want to get the GT310 but I have heard somewhere that if you listen to MP3 it does not remember what you were listening after you turn off the engine. So when you start the car again it would always start from the first song in the first album on CD. Is this how it works? Thanks in advance

I went with the Sony CDX-GT400, simply because you can make the backlight of the screen red too, along with the buttons. Having an all-red lighted deck and red buttons was all I was looking for.

I know that this thread is somewhat old, but I wanted to weigh in, too. I have a JVC KD-G720, which has a USB aux input. It has been very useful so far, interfacing with USB flash drives and iPods. I had mine installed back in November and have no idea if they still make this model, but it is always worth a try.

I went to best buy to check out JUST replacing the HU with an MP3-CD with front input. He spewed a thing that said that the speakers, and amp for the 6CD changer are UNIQUE to GM's factory audio system. Guy said, I'd be looking at wiring, speaker, amp, AND head unit replacement and made it sound like I'd have to build a new system from scratch.Sounds like mostly BS, right? The head units run off the same power and wiring as long as the wattage is the same, correct?I'm more of a home theater buff than car audiophile, so I'm not that familiar with the 12V systems. My setup is the 03 GT M&T pkg, with OEM 6CD changer. The bottom left rocker button says "AM/FM" and "CD/AUX".From the last 3 hours searching threads, it isn't looking too good about installing an Aux 2 Car jack in this particular Stock HU. At this point, I just want the 3.5mm jack for my non-ipod mp3, so my options seem limited to:an FM trans, the possible pandora's box of a new HUor the dicey scenario of the Aux input that with my model and OEM HU, may not work with anything that's out there. Any help would be appreciated.
