Lucas Synthetic Oil

Post by TJinPgh »

Was in Pep Boys yesterday pricing synthetic oil. I see they are carrying Lucas Synthetic Oil for about $7.50 a quart.I'm not talking about their oil additives that most of us are familiar with. I'm talking about an actual Synthetic oil. Anybody used it, or have any thoughts on it?They have three synthetic oils within $1 of each other.Mobile1Royal PurpleLucasThey probably have a few others that I didn't notice.I know Mobile1 has a good rep. Any thoughts on the others?EDIT:Should have pointed out that the Lucas oil IS made by the same company that makes the oil additive, and is labeled as a blend of a pure synthetic oil and other additives, so I'm guessing it contains at least part lucas oil additive.

Not sure about the Lucas, it may be fine. I use Mobil 1 and/or Castol Syntec because both are available in 0W-30.

Lucas? As in Lucas Electrics of British car fame?Car and Driver magazine used to refer to Lucas Electrics as "the people who invented darkness." As the owner of a British Leland product some 30 years ago, I can vouch for C & D's characterization.Probably has nothing to do with oil, but that name still haunts me.
