Info on Tinting with Rear Defoster

Post by WD0AFQ »

I am contemplating having our windows tinted. We have the rear defroster on the window. Can they tint with the defroster on the rear window? I could take fuse out I guess. We rarely use it.

It's not a problem, rear window tinting is very common. Make sure you use a professional installer who uses quality materials. A poor install or cheap films could cause problems, but a pro with pro films will not cause any issues.

should be no issue... I'm on like my 5th car with aftermarket tint and have never had a problem with the defrost. And like Hope said... We DO USE IT.

Ok, great. I appreciate the replies. Will see what I can get it done for. We have a guy close that does tinting. I have decided not to attempt it myself.Dan

have it done professionally unless you are a window tinter. nothing worse than having some cheap crappy tint job.

When I tint my windows I do it myself and like the others said there is not an issue. In fact the defroster when turned on and the tint has just been applied will have the adhesive dry. The only issue is when and if you remove it. You cannot scrape it off of obvious reasons.

The installer applied the tint in between the defroster strips on my car. Little chance for bubbling that way.

Ok, got the Vibe going in in the morning for tint. 200 smackers. I thought that fair, life time warranty. Should really dress up the black vibe gt. Wife is gone this week so it is a surprize for her.

Little chance for bubbling that way.are you F** kidding me??? who ever did that should be shot... if done correctly over the top of the defroster lines will never bubble and will actually help protect the defroster lines from the accidental scratch.

Maybe he means only 2-3 pieces... I've seen 'em do that before, and cut right along the defroster grid so you don't see the seam between the two pieces. If that tinter really did do strip after strip after strip, man that's patience!
