I actually don't mind it. I thought it was going to drive me crazy, but the first day I had my Vibe, it actually saved me from hitting a wall in a parking lot. I was parked on a slight decline, I put it into what I thought was reverse and started to ease out of the clutch. I just started rolling forward when I realized that there was no beeping. WHOA! I almost dinged my car up the first day I had it while showing the car off to some friends that I took for a ride in it! Anyways, I personally think the beeping isn't such a bad thing anymore. I'm sure there is a way to disable it if you really want to though. Good luck.

I actually kinda like it now. Its my "check" to make sure I am in the correct gear. With the close proximity of 1st and R, I am glad that the engineers thought to put that feature in. It probably saved me a few times by now.

Since I only drive a few feet a day in reverse, there is little time for to annoy me. How much reverse driving do you do?

Obviously I don't drive around in reverse all day, but I'm not so ignorant that I can't find reverse!!! I can see a couple of beeps when it goes into reverse, but as I'm backing out of my garage and down my driveway, I don't need to be reminded that I'm in reverse since the car is obviously going backwards!! Maybe it could buzz if I'm rolling???

What makes a GT so special that it needs a beep and the base doesn't? (Not that I am complaining).

It's worse since both gears are easy to launch unlike reverse being next to 5th. In that case, you can't go into reverse by accident from a stop unless you purposely put it in reverse and you won't take off in 5th if you where trying for reverse. Basically, it's too easy to take off in the wrong direction and it's always better to error on the side of being careful. People would be sueing if there wasn't a warning.

I see your point. Don't get me wrong...I love the car. I just wish it was a double beep and stopped at that. The coolest thing is that, that is all I can find to complain about!!! Pretty trivial, I know...I think it's that tone in general....it reminds me of an alarm clock maybe??

Maybe you can be the first to figure out where the "speaker" is and mute it with a piece of duct tape. It would probably still beep, but it wouldn't be as loud. (or just cut the wire, and kill the power going to that speaker. Its not like that speaker is going to be used for anything else)Make sure you document your experience, and take lots of pics to share with the rest of us. Someone might be interested in following your lead and making the "Randye Mod" to their Vibe GT.Note: If you are the first to make the mod, then you reserve the right to have the mod named after you.
