What does everyone feel is a good price for new rotors and pads on the front braks. Midas quoted me $581 for 2 new rotors and 2 new pads. yeah, i thought that was a little high. do you think it'd be cheaper for me to buy the parts and take them to a shop to install them. i don't have the tools or work area to do the job myself.
Sounds like they are charging you $100/rotor x 2, and $100 for pads. It's only a 3 hour job at the most. So they are charging you close to $100/hr. I found Midas just takes the cost of parts and doubles it on complete brake jobs like yours. See what I mean. The GM dealer near me was charging $265 for everything but rotors . Just be careful who ever does it. After it's done. There should be no pulsing when stopping. Which is often caused by the mechanic NOT cleaning the spindle where the rotor rests. If it does pulse...take it back. This is the biggest screw up I have had on my cars when others have done it. NOW I do it myself.

Maybe Midas is one of those places where they give you a lifetime warranty on any parts they replace, so they are going to charge more. Call an auto parts store and get a price quote on the parts. They may have to order the rotors, but would probably have the pads in stock. If you order the parts and still have Midas do the repair, they likely will not warranty the parts. Also check some other shops to get a quote, the repair is not complex, and probably any shop could do it well.

Midas' lifetime warranty is a scamthey use cheap parts that wear out faster then others... only the parts are warranty, but you still pay for labor everytime you go back for your "free" brake job. Supply your own parts to a better installer. IMHO

Looks like the Rotors start at $57. The pads range from $15 to $45. http://tinylink.com/?MK95My1WeW All the work is in replacing the pads. When the brakes are off, the rotors just slide off and are easily replaced. If you call around it shouldn't be any trouble to find an independent shop to do the install for around $100/axle. Ideal total: under $300 including some shipping.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
