Hello,Well I got a Sirius Tuner Kit for my Apline head unit for christmas. Know I just need to install it. The big question I have is running power to the unit itself. It has a wire for power and a ground wire. Instructions say to run the power wire to the battery (all 10 inches of it) my question is if there is another way of getting power to the tuner. I actually had hoped to put it either under the passenger seat or in the back near the hatch in one of the side panels. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
You can pull +12v battery always on by tapping into the wiring for the +12V socket inside the console between the seats, so you can put the tuner under the passsenger's seat.- the wiring for the +12V socket is there even if you have a 2005 or later Vibe without the socket itself. See the following thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13711- You can then do the following mod so the power on those wires is always on instead of switched (so it becomes battery power)http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6403
2005 Platinum Base ManualSide & Curtain AirbagsABSPower PackageTinted Windows"Mods": 'old-style' center armrest, center +12v, wheelskins leather steering wheel, AC/Recirc blue backlight, beeps on keyless entry, dome light switch, AC insulation, PCD10 10-disc CD/MP3 changer, AAI-GM12 AUX audio input, K&N filter, "shark fin" antenna.
Connect the +12 to the yellow wire of your alpine headunit, connect the ground to the black wire of your alpine headunit.Save yourself the trouble and leave everything in the dash (except the antenna). Placing the unit some forever and a year away won't help things and will just result in a headache worth of wiring.

I had XM in my old car and I wired it directly into the stereo. I can't remember which wire now I think there is a 12 volt wire you can splice into. I am not a 100% sure with the sirius unit though.

The sirius tuner requires constant power. However, in this case, I believe GMJAPs solution is a bit of overkill.Again, tap the wires in to the constant power (yellow) and ground wire (black) of the wiring harness going to the aftermarket radio you already have. Leave the tuner module inside the dash, it'll save you lots of time and headache.Edit: This advice is assuming his 'tuner kit' is the Sirius ALP-1 shown here ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-u...RALP1 )

I agree your idea is much easier if it will fit.

Our dash is a cavern compared to most cars. You can definitely fit this sirius tuner. It may not be 'secured down', but if he has a single DIN radio, he can definitely fit it right behind the AC controls. just tie it on to the support bar behind the radio.

There's a wide, flat piece of bracing behind the glove box door and passenger airbag. I mounted mine there with some adhesive velcro that I bought at Lowes. It's a perfect fit at well out of the way.My Sirius tuner is wired to switched power. I'll have to go back and and look at the installation guide, but I didn't know that it required constant power. Is that so you have instant satellite signal when the head unit comes on? It only takes a couple seconds for mine to lock on.

I just know that in the past I always connected it to constant. And as the wire is yellow, in car audio that's the standard color for 'Constant 12v'

For some reason my mind was thinking the only TWO power connections were +12 constant and ground. I didn't consider the ignition +12 as the prime power source, and the backup +12 constant as the memory keeper. THAT makes much more sense.

Well my head unit has constant power available, and that's where the presets are stored. The Sirius unit is wired to switched power. I tapped into the cig. lighter on the dash for that since I never use it for anything else. There may be a better source that I'm not aware of.

In my '04 the accessory power (sig lighter) in the dash and in the center console is switched with the accessory. It's not a constant power source. The '05 may be different, but I would be surprised.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
My 05 doesn't have constant power to the center console outlet either.I mounted my SIRIUS PNR2 tuner under the passenger seat. There isn't much room inside the dash for anything that large, nevermind keeping it upright to be cooled properly.

The newer Sirius and XM recievers are designed to go in the dash, no cooling required. Yes they will get warm but not horribly so.I don't know why you guys don't have room in your dash. I have a power supply for my computer that's 14" x 6" x 2" shoved under the radio behind the AC controls.
