Ejector seat installation, Bond style

Post by mlspina »

I recently bought an 04 Vibe with 27000 miles on it from a guy who kept it outdoors (in Florida-heat/humidity; he was 1st owner). Imagine my surprise when driving down the road one afternoon when the moonroof glass seperated from the frame and went flying (thankfully missing all the cars behind me). All that was left was a hole in the roof and the sliding sunshade between me and the elements. Has anyone else had this happen? Drove right to Pontiac and they had never seen it. They said the adhesive probably failed, but never advised why (had to order new glass but did set me up with a loaner). Thank goodness for warranties and no rain for the day! Hope this is rare; now I get a little nervous- every time I hit a large bump I look to make sure the M/R is still intact. Just curious. Thanks!

Crazy, never heard of that before! Welcome to the site however and hopefully you don't have any more issues like that!

I think you are safe if they repaired it, just one fo those freak things. That would suck though, but kind of funny. I can't imagine being a car behind you when all that happened.

No, it was shut at the time...I did hear a crackling noise prior to it's ejection..must have been the glue giving way.

I think I may have had them cracked, but I would have hoped the M/R could hold and withstand that!

Well, I did have practically every problem in the book, except this. At least he doesn't have my old car, one year too new and way too few miles! mlspina, that is definitely a weird one! Usually the only trouble these roofs give are leaks and various annoyances with the shade like rattles or it sliding shut when you go to stop.Hopefully things will be fine from this point forward.
