hey guys, cousin here with a matrix xrs. ive read some stuff up on the 3zz engine. the supposedly hybrid of the 2zz and 1zz i believe. it produces 220 hp and about 145 ft.lbs of torque at the wheels. you hafta convert your existing engine to the 3zz... pretty expensive. it also requires a fuel management system like a power fc or something. but do you think a few thousand bones is worth that power? i mean... more reliabe than an FI and the power comes in smoother. if you wanna check it out, use any search engine and type in "Trial 3zz Engine Kit" thats the company and the kit they sell. hope for feedback.
I thought the bit at the bottom of the site was the most interesting: "Coming soon! Supercharger kit for the 2ZZ engine!"(except for the $6,200 price, that is!)
That's crazy. The kit to get the parts to upgrade a 2zz engine to a 3zz is $2434.95. Not too bad, but doesn't include the other parts they suggest to make the engine operate properly throughout the engine's entire rpm range, it seems. That would about double the cost. Plus the cost to install all this stuff would be high as well. Might as well buy a WRX then, it would cost about as much and be fully under warranty. And that is before any WRX mods which would give even more power. I want to fit a smallish SC V6 in the Vibe. That would probably be the cheapest way to get big HP gains and maintain reliability.
