rough idle, stalling, no error codes

Post by meistees »

for a while now sometimes after I fill my car up and stop at a red light the car would idle rough like it was going to stall...never happened often maybe once every few months..now it is doing it more frequently except when I come to stop at a red light the rpms just drop like a rock to 0 and the engine dies out (and my scan guage picks up no codes) put the car in park and it starts back up just fine.. took it to the dealership they charged me $90 said nothing is wrong bring it back when its broke and take off the cold air intake because "they throw off air flow ratios".. any ideas??just for background info- I've had the intake for about 2 years... magnaflow catback year and half.. Unichip 2 months, DC header 1 month.. within the last 2 weeks has been the only times it has ever stalled out.. the rough idles has happened a few times within the last 2 years

I can understand the dealer’s reluctance to do any thing other than charge you $90 without a CEL. I would start with your aftermarket add ons. It has to be one of them.

Clean the MAF sensor, that should work. Spray it with MAF cleaner, brake cleaner or carb cleaner.

is it with the vehicle hot... like after driving for a while then coming to a stop. Maybe fuel pump?I suggest cleaning the MAF, reseting the ECU and see how that goes... if it persists you may have to start taking off your mods to get a final answer.

I'll try cleaning the sensor and resetting the ECU

I had a similar prob with rough idle and the odd stalling. The weird thing was that it didn't throw any codes. But it ended up being the idle air control valve. There have been a few posts on MO so go there and search "iac valve" or "stalling".Hopefully you still have your warranty cuz the part is like $250 and some dealers don't stock them-they have to be special ordered. It's a place to start.

I cleaned the maf sensor and reset the ECU but havent driven the car around yet today... I'll check the MO site for the valve issue, I have the extended warranty on the car for like another 20,000 milesone thing I did notice last night even though I didn't have any problems with the car yesterday my ScanGuage II was reading voltages between 12.2 and 14.4 while I was out driving.. most of the time the voltage was above 14 but I glanced over a couple times and it was below.. is this normal?? or an alternator problem.. I have the stock alternator with an Optima red top battery and running a head unit and 2 amps one with a capacitorhope everyone has a nice holiday

I checked out the IAC valve postings on MO and talked to somebody who had the same problem and I'd have to say its whats wrong with mine too ..and it pretty much stalls out everyday now in rush hour traffic and to top it off the dealership finally agreed but say they can't test to prove its failing and wont replace ($300 part!) under warranty until it breaks totally and shows an error code..
