Hello everyone ,After going thru all the posts on oil change pertaining to conventional and synthetic i am a bit lost and need ur help with regards to changing to synthetic. I have had the base vibe for 2 years and have done 7 oil changes ( every 3 months to date) and plan to switch to synthetic in the next oil change which is due this week ,the odometer reading is 31,000 km and the oil changes were done using conventional oil .Is it alright to switch to Synthetic ? Some post say that doing this will lead to leaks in the seal ( becoz the odo is above 25 k) . Or should i stick with conventional oil? Is there any really good benefit if i switch to synthetic? The reason i intend to do so is becoz lot of the posts recommend going with synthetic as it prevents wear of engine and prolongs life of the engine parts . Correct me if i am wrong .Another questions is where do i get the synthetic oil change done ?So far i have been doing it at the dealership .Any suggestions for any place in Toronto ,ON. ? Is Canadian tire a reasonable place do get it done ? I have a free oil change coupon for Canadian tire and i asked them what filter they use and was told that they use Motormaster which are made by Farm . Are these good filters?Coz in the post ppl were critical about them .The warranty is ending in Jan 30th 2007 ,anything i should do or get checked before it ends ?Thanks in advance to all .
You could save a lot of money by doing the oil changes your-self. Theres no problem with you switching to synthetic, your car is still quite young.I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and a Pure1 Filter (made by Purolator). I usally by the oil and filter from different places and have been having walmart perform the labor. I would do the labor myself too but my landlord forbids this task being done on their property.
Do the oil change yourself. I do. I use Mobil Synthetic and use a Matrix XRS filter. No problems what so ever and I go as long as 15,000 km intervals without worrying about the oil.I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 Extended in Jan and have intervals of 20,000km since I am lazy Canadian Tire caries both Mobil 1 Synthetic and Extended. Filters you can pick up at any Toyota dealership (much cheaper than any GM dealership)Cheers
I would love to do the oil change myself but i stay in a apt and they don't allow oil change in the underground parking . Thanks for ur replies .I will get the matrix filter from the toyota dealer before i get the oil change done .
You can try oil changers.. if you ask if you can bring your own oil/filter they just might charge you labour and disposal fee.. I think walmart could do the same.I recommend going Mobil 1 and save money and time with longer Oil Change intervals.
