Hello everybody ,After having researched the various post on this forum with regards to snow tires and winter rims , last month i bought a set of 15" multi fit winter rims from Canadian tire and got 195/65/15 Nordic winter tires. They are running fine just that when i brake there is some pronounced road noise . A couple of days back someone posted a topic cautioning about rim size and that if we dont have the correct bore diameter --"Just a little heads up for those looking at winter tires and rims..Canadian Tire, Walmart etc offer a rim for the car but it is not the correct one..the diamter of the bore is too large..resulting in the tire being supported by the bolts..Just a tip..I learned the hard way...arrrr " Well i learnt too late and i dont think CT will be willing to take them back . When i bought them they didnt mention that this would be a problem , all they said was that the wheel covers wouldnt fit .Anyways all said and done , will this mismatch in the bore diameter adversely affect the bolts ? Will ,the tires being supported by the lug bolts alone cause excess strain on them in the long run . Someone mentioned hubcentric rings too . Any suggestions where i could get them in Toronto ? All Torontonians PLZ answer this .
If the bore size is wrong, you need to get it fixed. It's definately a bad thing, like driving with the lug nuts loose. You can check a wheel quite easily. Jack the car up and remove the nuts and check the fit on the center, it should be quite snug. Hubcentric rings should be available at any custom shop or specialty rim and wheel shop. I got mine from http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do for $12.00 US and a few bucks shipping.
thanks for the reply . Does anyone have any idea what the bore diameter is for the 15" Multi Fit winter rims which are sold by Canadian tire , i need to know that coz then i can order some hubcentric rings . The centre bore for Vibe is 54.1 mm , please correct me if i am wrong .
Yes but they are 16" also. The 15" Corolla rims fit perfectly, that's what I used to have. Did you check to see if the movement is because of the hub size? You can measure the hub size of the Canadian Tire wheel.
Hi, Since you can return the rims to CTC, do so and buy a set of brand new Corolla rims. I got mine at the Toyota dealer, 70 $ each minus 10 % discount = 63 $. I politely asked for a discount based on quantity and to my surprise, I got it!I am also running the CTC Nordic Icetrack and I am very happy with them.Remi2006 Vibe, Neptune Blue, debadged, Fast Wheels - TangoAlready 14 000 km + 5 000 km behind the motorhome!
Thanks for all the reply and suggestions . I went to CT and asked them to have a look at the difference in the hub and rim bore diameter and spoke to the service manager and they ordered 15" OE rims which fit Vibe and Matrix and switched the multi fit rims .The ride on the OE rims are so different than the multi fit rims . There is marked reduction in the vibration to the steering and also remarkable smoother ride .
