Roof Racks

Post by Ironman »

I just installed a Thule 889 Roof Rack. Much to my dismay, I found that ounce it is installed I can't open the hatch! I have now turned the entire rack around so I can open the hatch however, it appears backwards (the bike faces the rear of the car not the front). Any suggestions? By the way, it does not impead with the sunroof.

Sorry to hear about your problem Ironman. I know this problem has surfaced on a few occasions on this board as of late. I came up with a solution with the Yakima system. Instead of buying 2 sets of towers that attach directly to the factory rack, I bought one set of the normal roof towers and one set of the factory rack towers. What I did was I mounted the normal roof towers just behind the windshield and then put the factory rack towers as far foreword on the factory rack as possible. This way I can have my bike and skis on the car and still have access to the rear hatch. I can post some pictures if anyone is interested! Jon
