Shifting to 1st..

Post by canadianroadie »

Hi all, Question,,..how slow do you have to be going to get back into 1st gear ?I find to downshift from 2nd to 1st, I need to be almsot at a stop, no more than 5 km hr, or it simply will not allow me to get into 1st gear. Is this the norm ??

Is this the norm ?? hard to say... to be easy on the tranny 5km or less is probably best... however in my 04 during autocross I've shifted into first from second at a lot faster speed. I can't tell you what speed though as I was looking at my corner/line and not how fast I was going. Under normal driving I'll downshift all the way through into second and usually clutch and brake that last couple feet and then shift into first when stopped or pretty slow in speed.

While slowing down, put it in neutral, quickly let the clutch out & blip the throttle, put the clutch back in and shift to first. Takes practice to get the revs vs car speed just right.

when completely stopping, i shifted into 1st at the stop. but when driving spirately. like when getting on the highway, first can take you all the way to 30 -ish. so anywhere around there. at around 20 mph..pop the clutch, give it some gas (5k) PUSH it into 1st, let loose of the clutch and floor it. she will squeel the tires nicely!!
