Indiana police clock teen @ 142mph

Post by kcorona »

Q: why would any parents let a 16 y/o drive an '04 Impreza? I'm assuming it's got to be a WRX STi.http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/s...FAULT

I had a friend who was pulled over for speeding after a night out of drinking. When the cop asked him why he was speeding, my friend replied that his fuel gauge was on "E", and he was trying to make it home before he ran out of gas. Needless to say that got him a free ride to the drunk tank.

what an idiot. those dumbass kids get the rest of us bad reps. which is why we get harassed by the cops for our exhausts, or tint, or whatever floats their boat at the time. i don't get harassed as much in my LGT, but when Phil gets his STI, he should plan on being stopped on a regular basis for tint, speeding, or anything else they might find... while the redneck trucks in their annoyingly loud dual exhaust go screeching by with opened beer cans flying out the window!

Why 16 year olds should not have their own car! Unless they paid for it. Sure have a license but no car. My kid will not, not until they are 18. If they absolutely have to at 16 then a 4 cylinder nothing to prove car and if they get in trouble, their dear old dad and all of his car knoweldge will disable it so they cannot drive it!

i don't understand why a parent would give their child a high performance car in the first place! do they want them to run it into a wall and kill themselves?? if they must have a car, get them the SLOW car that is ugly, none of their friends will want to ride in it (thus keeping the show off need down), and very safe. my parents never gave me a car. I had usage of a car when I needed it, but also had a job to help pay for the insurance, gas, and "rent" of said vehicle. it was our 83 Toyota Tercel Wagon... it rocked! fastest that could go was MAYBE 80 mph!

I was legally driving by age 17... didn't have my first car until I was like 21 though. 16 is a good age to be driving. Just gotta teach them to drive responsible.Let them pull me over in the STi. there won't be anything they can get me on unless I was speeding. I got the letter for tint from the eye doc. exhaust will remain stock. Yes officer that spoiler is stock as is the hoodscoop. I look forward to it. kinda.

I was illegally driving at 15 with a permit (long story as to why) and legally at 16. The car I could use occasionally when I drove was a 1979 Chevy Station Wagon with a 350 V8. It was slow, I never floored it but my dad said you know the consequences if you get pulled over, no license until 18!

easy on the young driving guys. I have a lot of friends with fast cars who don't ever speed. I'm 16 and I'd consider my car to be fast (nowhere close to STI fast though) and I have only broken 100 twice and both in very safe environments. And I know that most of u adults have broken a hundred at some point too.

That kid was lucky he didn't get halled off to jail. Oh and it's possible to go 145mph in a standard WRX, it just takes a bit of road (don't ask me how I know )People under the age of 18 should not be aloud to drive cars with more than 180HP.

i started learning to drive on back roads in florida and kentucky( ok ill admit floridas a little easy go straight turn on to new road go straight...lol jk)when i was 10... my parents believed that in cases of emergency i should be able to handle my self and not panic and an emergency could include me having to drive them for help. ill admit i had a newer vehicle when i got my licence( my baby still my truck.. and go easy on trucks not all of us that drive them are rednecks mine which i only race at the track now runs a 13.06@101 but thats another story all together..) i think it depends a lot on the teen also i was very responsible and my parents trusted me( and you know i didnt get a speeding ticket until last year and that was in our old crappy lumina) ...whats worse than that are the parents that go out and buy their kids zx-6r's and gsxr750's and trx450rs or raptors and expect them not to do stupid stuff on them( i know i work at a powersports store i regularly have to give the age restriction speech on bikes and 4wheelers)

That kid should have gone to jail, IMHO. Why the hell the cop let him go home is beyond me. Hopefully the parents will take care of this issue. First thing that should be on their agenda is taking that stupid car away from him... So what if your car will go that fast, that doesn't mean you have to make it go that fast.

I'm talking about these parents who buy their kids expensive high performance cars and they believe that nothing bad could happen?? let's just say on my 18th birthday, I was at 2 funerals for 2 separate vehicle accidents involving higher speed cars given to 16 yr olds by their parents without any to little supervision. Granted, one was because of a drunk driver while the other was from his own accord, driving fast and wrecklessly while killing himself and attempting to kill his passenger. and i don't believe my car has ever seen 145 mph. almost, but not quite that fast. funny thing, is that was when it was stock with just an uppipe.

That's just how it is here. If they see a big wing and a hood scoop, they automatically think you are racing. i have been pulled over 4 times in a year in my LGT. twice for speeding, once for not coming to a full 4 sec stop, and for passing illegally (at a high rate of speed). I'm not saying that I'm innocent of not doing stupid things in my car, however, I don't go racing in and out of traffic taking everyone's life in my hands. and cops pull up next to me all the time. we live nearby the main trooper and APD headquarters. they all see me every day or multiple times in a day. I'm not worried, but it doesn't change the hassle of being pulled over and harassed by them. I have friends who are cops and they tell me it's just their "profiling" they do. this story is just an example of WHY we get profiled. these kids think they are invincible and drive like morons. the majority of us don't, yet we have to suffer because we happen to drive similar type of vehicle.and my comment regarding the annoyingly loud exhausts on trucks is that while the cop has you on the side and ticketing you for a loud exhaust (even if you have a stock exhaust they like to say you don't), a 12" jacked up truck on Mickey Thompsons with dual straight pipes will drive by, his exhaust being 10x's louder than yours but the cop will not pay any attention to it. i used to have a truck with exhaust but it wasn't nearly as loud like some of the chevy's, fords and dodge's. here, those guys (unless it's blatant speeding) can do just about anything and the cops just ignore them.

Heh, they're not profiling... They're just getting you back for being bad ten minutes prior when the cop wasn't around. When going into a purchase of a fast vehicle, people should be aware that they are accepting the risks that come along with it, and that includes increased attention from the police. Doing modifications makes that even worse. It should be obvious to anybody what the car was built for, so at any time, there is always the potential of the driver to get up to a very dangerous speed and cause a lot of damage to themselves and others on the road. The fact remains that someone with however many hundreds of horsepower can't drive their car any faster legally than I can my little 110 HP tin can...

Its illegal no matter what the hell your driving...your just making yourself stand out when you got a "fast" lookin/sounding car..i'm not to sure if your car sounding like you have a tin can attached to it really makes a police officer want to profile you though...i understand the hole profiling thing and it does make sense to me with why they should do it...but regardless to sound, looks, etc etc...your breakin the law and their gonna can your (removed) regardless

oh, i'm not saying he wasn't breaking the law. he was most definitely, and he should have been in jail for that kinda of speeding! just pointing out that they make a big deal about the car he was in, which goes to show that profiling isn't done just up here, but also there. my car is quiet. you can hardly hear it. stock exhaust, stock pipes, etc. i may mod it, but the exhaust will always remain quiet. attention gets drawn to me because i have 75" x 12" graphics on the sides in blue and green that say "CLEARWIRE" so ya.... i get plenty of attention! however, having noted this, I don't get harassed near as much since I've installed the graphics. I have illegal tint (but have a doc's note for it) and every time I've been pulled over, they've not said anything about it, just for the things I was doing wrong like speeding or illegal passing. They are doing their job and I have no problems with that. what i do have problems with are kids who think they are invincible and drive wrecklessly without caring about other's safety around them, meanwhile just adding to this persona that anyone driving a car with a hood scoop drives the same way. i sure hope his parents blistered his (removed) for this!

Honestly? I'm just impressed that apparently the kid fessed up to his parents, and I assume, took responsibility for his actions. It doesn't say for sure, but at that point in my life, I probably would've NOT told my parents what I did if I could've avoided it. Yet his Mom called the officer within the hour. While I don't condone what he did, at least he seems to not be completely stupid.

true. at that age, i would never have gone over 10 mph, but whenever i did something incredibly stupid, my parents always found out. i learned it was easier for me to come clean and confess, ask for forgiveness than for them to find out later. and in my circumstances, they'd have found out because one of my mom's good friend's husband was pretty high up in APD. he kept tabs on all us kids. that kid should have, at the very least, spent the night in jail and had his license revoked until he took/retook drivers-ed.I live in a smallish town (twin city pop 145,000) with a large university (44,00 students). the cops here do tend to pull people over very frequently for anything.what they are actually doing is checking for DUI/DWI and MIP.

Kids like that are the reason I bought a Charger instead of the STI. Yes I wanted the STI just not the headaches and B.S.. I buy a charger 2.5 mo later it gets stolen and my wife passes her vibe on to me. I have yet to get pulled for tint. A state cop came up next to me the other night at a stoplight, I thought for sure He was gonna pop me but he just took off. Mabye its all the 50+ folks that drive vibes?Aron
