my vibe gt is nomore. last weekend i was driving along when i heard an extremly loud raspy sound from under the hood then i pulled over to see what it was and saw all my oil on the ground. thats yamaha for you cracked an alumminum block first time i've ever hurd of an alumminum block cracking and it happened to me
More likely with aluminum than cast iron. Was it running hot or could the coolant have frozen and caused a cracked? In general, Yamaha makes really good engines.
Bummer!Check Nordstrom Automotive for an engine. They don't have one right now but I have seen many GT engines there , low mileage and cheap.http://stores.ebay.com/Nordstr....html
yeah sorry to hear about that, that sucks. I too wonder about the coolant level. Yamaha does make good engines, but since most are more performance minded they need the regular maintenance done, like the ford taurus sho engine.

If it's any consolation I cracked mine and blew a hole out the back of it on my 1zz S/C when a rod snapped in half. Had to buy and replace my own engine. You could do it for about $1000-1500 if you did it yourself. Some junkyards will even install it for you if you bring it there.

And look at how they have improved......the majority are now aluminum. 2ZZ (GT) and 1ZZ (base) are very different. Different bore & stroke and a bunch more differences
