Alpine FullSpeed iPod controls

Post by jwalcik »

i finally received all of the pieces necessary to install the replacement stereo from my insurance company. they sent me an alpine 9856, and i picked up the alpine KCE-422i (the new cable-only ipod interface for alpine head units). i was using alpine's original ipod interface (kca-420i, i believe) with my old unit, and while it was functional and provided superb audio quality, controls were kind of a mixed bag (functional, but painfully slow) and it would forget settings after i killed the engine (if i had it on shuffle, i'd have to turn shuffle back on after i killed the engine). with the new unit, browsing my nearly-full 60GB ipod by artist or album isn't as speedy as using the clickwheel, but it's definitely usable. the headunit itself is a bit of an eyesore (on my old alpine i could adjust the colors so that they matched the rest of the lights on the vibe's dash), but the ipod controls are a giant leap forward. shuffle and bbe settings are maintained after the vehicle is shut off. i still wouldn't call it perfect, but i'm definitely happy with it.

no idea about the video. the headunit i've got is the 9856. alpine has a mini site for the new ipod controls. one of the headunits they use in the demo is the IVA-W200, but they don't show it playing back any video off of the ipod.
