What should my 1st "mod" be ??

Post by aggiedude »

Hey folks, I can't seem to find any CAI or KN filter for the car (2006 base), so was just going to shoot for wheel sfor my 1st little item. Sure, it ain't going to do anything for the performance or anything but I got that little "itch" and gotta do something or I'm gonna lose it...What do y'all recommend ??? Thanx, Merry Christmas and God bless !
2006 Stealth ...Drove off the lot on 7-17-06..Only add ons are the pinstriping, perddy dark tinted windows (20 on the back and 30 on the front I think), and now the Weathertech bug deflector....Thanx for an awesome site and fantastic folks !

Wish I had bought a set, as I just noticed one of mine is shattered nothing dresses up a vibe more than a genvibe.com window sticker

While you are waiting for a CAI, you can take off the airbox snorkel(you will need to remove your battery to do this), take off the white plastic air flow screen on the inside top of the airbox (it just inclips) and get a K&N drop-in filter. Total cost $40. You will have the sound and performance similar to a Short Ram. A cheap performance mod.

But K&N isn't saying the 05 and 06 drop ins are the same so kinda paranoid about spending the $40 if it's not gonna work right....And I'm heading over to check out the CAI now.....Thanx guys..And I've been around; just not too much posting..Will try harder !!

an oil-impregnated, cotton air filter, i.e., K&N, Holley, etcI have changed over to such air filters in my last 10 vehicles (Camry, Firehawk, Monte Carlo (2x). Escort, Impreza, Protege, Dakota (3x) I always perceived an improvement in acceleration, and always could document an improvement in gas mileage. What was shocking to me was the effect in the new 2006 Vibe---the greatest acceleration boost I've ever felt after one of these changeovers!

Hey Mike, was it truly that impressive ? I just got an email from K&N that the 33-2252 will fit my 06 and so was thinking about getting one...Was also thinking about taking off the stock snorkel to see what kind of sound I would get, but definitely interested in knowing more about performance, mpg, and possible sound diffrerence with the new filter..Tell me more...ha ha

Oh yea, one GREAT so called mod I made yesterday was to get the OEM front rubber floor mats for my Vibe in charcoal (GM 012498520) and man are they 200% better than the stock carpet ones...Fantastic deal for $50..Plus I don't get shocked everytime I step out of the dadgum car.....They are definitely worth the money.

Can't tell you about mpg increase (the car is still too new and getting broken in), but the change -- at least in my Vibe -- in acceleration from a standing start was hard to believe. Even my wife (who, like a lot of other women, only ever notices car colors) remarked "Did you do something to Vinny? (her affectionate name for the car, i.e. "Vinny Viberino") He's snapping my neck now."Look at the Toyota air filter with its thick folded layers of fibers, then look at a K&N. Seemed obvious to us why "Vinny" was acting differently....No noticeable difference to me in sound, but again I drove it only a few hundred miles before the K&N change....

the K&N drop in air filter will fit your 06, had one in mine for a while now, or get the Cosmo SRI or CAI and just buy a K&N filter to put on the end lol

Five and a half year old thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! look before you post............

But since this has been resurrected, does anyone know where to get (if you still can) the fog light protectors??? Can anyone post a pic of them so I can see how they install? One of mine was broken when I bought the car. I replaced it and both are still good, 18 mos and 30K mi later.

What difference does it make how old the thread is as long as the information is relevant and/or useful?
For example, I found this whole thread including the new contribution to be an interesting and useful read. I am new here and didn't catch this 5 years ago.

so to the guy who bumped this thread I say GREAT POST
