last gear

Post by keithvibe »

Being it have been getting colder around here lately I have noticed that when I start the vibe let it warm up for a few mins then start to drive the transmission will wait for a higher speed to shift into overdrive. I.E. if the car is warm the trans will shift into the last gear at or around 40mph. If the car is cold it will shift into the last gear at or around 50-55mph. Anyone else experience this as well?

I know some Toyota models do this by design, I imagine the Vibe is the same.

Yep. It will not shift into higher gear untill the oil and/or cat. is warmed. I sometimes go a mile before it shifts in to OD if it is real cold out. That is one of the reasons your MPG goes down also.

The transmission wouldn't prevent you from moving the shifter into the higher gears if the engine is cold... So, this is for the automatic only.

lol silly boy... As is with the awd the gas milage is low enough this just adds to the reasoning to get an automatic car starter
