Yep, I had a guy pull a u-turn in front of me, I thought he was parking and we collided. I'm totally bummed. I took a pic with my phone, I'll try to download it later.

I think I'd have to say something a bit stronger than "darn" Sorry to hear about the accident. What kind of damage did you take/cause?but most important is if everyone is ok. mechanical things can be repaired and replaced.
Thanks folks, I think all that was damaged was the passenger side fender, the bumper and surraounding trim, My rim was totally destroyed. It was sad to see it being towed away. No one was cited, But that might change. he didn't tell the police officer that he was doing a u-turn. But I'm going to.
sry to hear. you def should tell them since that seems to be the cause of the accident, them making a u turn and not checking to see if anyone was coming or making it apparent that they were turning
i hate to say it, but unless there was a sign posted that says no u-turn, you will most likely be found at fault. you said yourself you thought they were parking, but you were wrong.i was riding in my buddie's firebird a few years back and we made a wrong turn, so he decided to pull a u-turn. the lady behind us wasn't paying attention and nailed us, spinning us around a few times. she was found at fault since it was a legal u-turn. it's not their job to make sure you are stopping.

If Brookville is anything like Oxford, I think I know what may have happened and if it is, then no one was making a legal U-turn. On several of our streets uptown we have both parallel and angled parking spaces along the sidewalk. I have had people before act like they're parking, when really they're just swinging out wide to make a U-turn and don't realize there's someone behind them. They're making the turn in the middle of the street without looking, which even if the U-turn is legal (not sure it is in the middle of the street though), would cause them to be cited with failure to yield. Just like pulling out in front of somebody.
thats really sad to hear but at least your ok. hopefully you didnt move the accident... i had experience with that i got side swiped by an idiot driving a beer truck( i think he was sampling the wares) in our old lumina and moved it because it was blocking a major six lane intersection dumb dumb dumb. but anyway a car can be fixed,people.... not so much.
Quote, originally posted by drunkenmaxx »above said u-turn involving me was in the middle of the street.I really don't remember what the driver's manual says about U-turns but somehow I'm guessing that a random U-turn in the middle of a busy downtown street (not at an intersection) with a double yellow line in the middle is shady, especially if it's done without looking, and without signaling. I don't know the specifics on where he was, but I know that would be the situation with the people who've done that in front of me.
Quote, originally posted by drunkenmaxx »well, the cops blamed the lady. it's really no different than making a left turn into a driveway or something. But if you made that left turn without signaling and you swung out wildly to the right first, you would be found at fault because the driver's manual says you have to signal turns, and that when you turn left you should stay close to the double yellow line. The times I've seen people pull U-turns when they shouldn't, they always swung out wildly to the right, no signal at all, looked like they were either turning right or parking in a spot on the side of the street, and all of a sudden whipped over in front of traffic that had been behind them and nearly got hit.It all depends on the specific situation. From what I have found about U-turn laws, you can do it across a double yellow and it doesn't have to be at an intersection *unless* you are in a business district (which the situations I am describing were...but we don't know where 4x4chichi was). Also, it is your obligation when you make any kind of turn to be sure that you are clear to do so, which the person in 4x4chichi's situation obviously wasn't.It's hard to judge the specifics without knowing the specifics, but it sounds to me like at the very least the person failed to yield, even if their U-turn was legal.
the guy behind you is not your responsibility, he has to make sure he doesn't hit you. the cops may not fault anyone, but if you are hit from the rear, the insurance companies will fault the person who did the hitting as you can't prove turn signals, swinging right, etc.i have the right to slam on my breaks at any time, if you hit me, you were following too close.

MAN!!!! That is horrible! Good luck gettin her fixed...I feel for you I'm having ahard time picturing this sequence of events...they did a U-turn in front of you an hit your passenger side somehow? Were they going to same direction as you or like coming in from the side?
I was behind him, He went to the right as if to park on the side of the road, he even stopped for a sec, then he jutted out to turn around. My insurance company is going after his for 100% of costs. I still haven't got it back yet, Maybe Tuesday, They are telling me.
I got it back last night. It looks great. It's so weird seeing my front end with no chips in the paint. I'll post some pics of the new rims on it when I can. I'm getting new tires tonight. Woo Hoo, traction
