so my original plan was to get a Bulldog... but i had to come to the harsh realization that i could not yet afford a bulldog, and my wife convinced me to look into a boxer... so i did.... and i'm headed to North Carolina on Saturday to pick up our new girl...she's a brindle boxer and we're naming her SHEERA..yup just like on He-Man.I can hardly wait

had looked into getting one from a shelter but the one that we fell in love with got adopted right out from under us... and it was almost as much for the adoption here as it was for our puppy

ha! that was the same plan i had, and the same train of thought that led to me getting my boxer. great, great dogs. full of energy and personality. if you've never owned one before you're about to enter a rather unique world of interesting breed traits and slobber.

Rescues will go out of their way and will even transport to you. I know they do that with mainland Dachshund rescues...volunteers will go so far as to drive to other states to get a dog to a forever home.

Even a year-old dog from a reputable breeder is cheaper than a puppy, substantially. I have been looking at rescues and also at dogs that are a little older, since I'm not sure I want to deal with the puppy stage right now...haha.Post lots of pics when you get her!
Awesome!Nice choice in dog breed. My buddy has one and my wifes girlfriend has one. They are both VERY hyper dogs. You'll need to run them at least twice a day to get them to mellow down for you. And warn all your male visitors to guard thier junk! Boxer's love to hit that area!!They are both very adorable dogs! And very good with small children. Except for the jumping on everyone part. Might want to invest in the "Dog Whisperer" videos. Very informative.

Glad to hear another happy ending story for a puppy. But, just an FYI... http://www.boxerrescue.com/http://www.s ... .org/Could have gotten a unwanted boxer from a previous owner and had the good feeling you just saved a life.I got my boy Andrew threw the link in my signiture. The cost was 300.00 for a dog under the age of 3yrs and 200 over the age of 3yrs I believe. Plus, the adoption fees are tax deductible because the money goes to a non-profit orgination. I now have a pure bread brittany that would have cost me well over a grand for a puppy. I did adopt Andrew at the age of 8months. So tec. he was still a puppy at 1 third the cost and the cost is now tax deductiable. Are you going to keep Sheera's ears natural? Please post LOTs of photos.... everyone loves a puppy... Welcome to sleepless nights

Quote, originally posted by joholste »we are going to keep her ears natural we like that look betterjust an fyi, with boxers there can be a medical reason for getting their ears cropped. they're prone to getting yeast infections in there (combination of the enclosed floppy ear and the excessive amount of moisture they produce with their ears/nose/mouth. just clean 'em out every month or two (cotton ball and rubbing alcohol) and they'll be fine though.
You can also use one part white vinegar to five parts water. Pour it into the ear canal and rub it around to desolve the wax. Then just wipe out the ears the best you can with cotton balls or q-tips. Then just let the dog shake his or her head to get the rest out. Using this method rather than something purchaced at the pet store will sting a lot less if there is an infection in the ear. I just love the boxers ears floppy. I have a neighbor who kept their boxers ears natural and other than the snorting and snoring the boxers tend to be pritty. Keep in mind a puppy will be only able to hold it blatter for as long as it is old..... i.e. one month=1hr... 2months=2 hrs. ect. Be prepared to get up several times for the first year during the night to let the puppy out to go to the bathroom.

well my wife just took my puppy into the vet to get her checked out because she was acting sick again. so they dewormed her. but the big thing is when I first picked her up she was barely 10 lbs. soaking wet. and she is now 43.8 pounds. and she's not even a year old. Her mom was 45 and her dad was 65 so i was kinda hoping she'd stay a little smaller since the condo is not very big, but now it looks like she's probably gonna be closer to her dad's size. My wife should be sending new pics of her soon. Best buy should be sending her camera soon so she can take some pics for me. I'll let ya'll see what she looks like when she gets older.

I'm not home so i'm not able to tell you most of what she does. anyways. hopefully i'll soon have some new pictures of her.
