help on carpet

Post by 02csnow »

Well we had some bad rain here in Virginia Beach on wednesday and when i got to my car after work the water was up to the bottom of the door. Got in my car and thought it was fine until i started driving and saw 2 inches of water in the floor board of the back. i came home and used a shop vac to suck up as much water. checked it toady and it is still a little wet. going to take the carpet fully out and see what i can do. my question is does anybody know where i can get a oem replacement for the floor board carpet if i cant get it fully dried.

I believe gmaccessories.net sells that. You should be able to link to it off of the Pontiac web site, but http://www.gmaccessories.net is the URL if you cannot find the link from the Pontiac site itself.

That site is not going to sell you OEM replacement parts, that is for post-delivery add-ons.Contact tnpartsguy or a email them on http://www.gmpartsdirect.com to get a part number and price quote...

88974341 List price.....$199.45???? (removed), a cheap part for a Vibe....who woulda thunk it!!Seriously, that carpet set is CHEAP.... the shipping from me or GMPD would be probably $75~100, getting that part local would be the way to go, especially with it being fairly cheap (most carpet sets are $400 and up)

Any ideas where the water is coming from? If it is collecting in the rear floorboard, there are some plugs underneath the car in openings where the cars were chained down on the trailer that sometimes were forgotten about during prep. I don't recall where exactly these things are, there may be some posts about it around here somewhere. The info was in GM Techlink but that site was no longer publically available last I checked. There are also four large round plugs in the floor pan - two per side. You could try popping those out and see if any water drains out, a friend of mine's Vibe had water collecting in the floor from somewhere... We took those plugs out to let everything drain, got quite a bit of water out of the floor. Never figured out where that water was coming from, but it was everywhere. It looked to possibly have been coming from above, ran down under the rear seat, then down to the floor. If you're also seeing water on the passenger's side front, check the A/C drain. I'm too lazy to search, but there are a few threads about that problem. Good luck finding that! Once you get it fixed, you probably will need some new carpet. Once it gets to stinkin', it is hard to get rid of that funk.

No matter where you live, If the mold hasn't started to grow yet, start running the heat on full blast to the floor NOW! This may save your carpet by helping it dry out faster. Leave the windows cracked to let the moisture escape. I worked at a place that detailed cars and they would pull the carpet out to pressure wash it and this is how they would get it dry.

it may take a couple days to dry up from a soaking like that, even if you shop vac the crap out of it.like Tubayan said... crack the windows and run the heat to the floor. Hope it works out soon.
