The new unit is a Sony CDFX7710, very nice, rear aux input, built in cross overs, etc...anyway, I picked the Matrix install kit thinking they're the same and it would be fine. That install kit is too wide for the opening in the trim panel, so the panel is back on, but only on one side, the other side is hanging out. I used an adapter cable to hook up my mp3 player. Feels like a wired remote when I drive.
you gotta fix that bro! you can't have a nice system like that with the dash all screwed up!i havent replaced my deck yet but someone help this guy get that right... what kit did you buy? for what year matrix?

I used kit # TOY-K975, manufactured by American International. It's the kit referenced in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24862 The kit is indicated for the 2005-2006 Matrix, and the Pontiac kits didn't look right at all. That person had the same problem. I've PM'd to see what the solution was.
They changed that whole bezel in '05 I think it was on the Matrix... They added an external clock, and a different sized Toyota radio replaced the Delphi units like ours that they used previously..So, you'll need the Pontiac kit or '03/'04 Matrix... I had one from Metra that fit pretty good, no complaints about it... I don't recall the model number though.BTW, that's going to be a great looking install with the right kit! I like the silver, that's a nice fit.

Thanks for advice folks...I picked up the supposedly proper kit at CT today...after trial fitting I found the same off center problem, although to a much lesser degree....I also found the same gap that others have had....I elongated the mounting slots and trimmed some excess plastic from the mounting area in the dash, just to finesse the install kit towards the driver side and eliminate the gap and off center look....I like the previous kit, it had a smaller black area above the HU....I may go back to it another time when I have more time to fiddle with things..anyways....BTW, if you're in Canada these head units are on clearance at Canadian Tire, mine anyway....reg. $299 sale $129....nice price eh!
