Meanwhile I can take a Dodge Nitro and go to china within 30 seconds, no worse for wear. But, it doesn't actually drive on the road.

Even better, you can cruise through Hell in a Nitro and wave at Satan playing poker!

Quote »The Jeep Patriot is a compact crossover SUV to be introduced in early 2007 for the 2007 model year by the Jeep marque of DaimlerChrysler. It debuted publicly in April 2006 at the New York Auto Show. It is one of Jeep's first crossover SUVs, which will be released after the related Jeep Compass. It will slot between the Liberty and Compass in the Jeep lineup with pricing starting from US$14,985.The Patriot and Compass are both based on the DaimlerChrysler/Mitsubishi GS platform. These vehicles will be differentiated by their styling and marketing: The Patriot is a traditional 4-door Jeep wagon, similar to the Cherokee, which was discontinued in the U.S. in 2001, while the Compass is intended as a sporty crossover like the Toyota Matrix. The Dodge Caliber, also based on the GS platform, is a combination of these two segments.

There's no logic to justify putting RWD in a truck (or car) that only puts out 172hp and is NOT intended to perform like a sports car. They're also giving the Patriot both Freedom Drive I and II options. II is Trail Rated, which should satisfy anyone who is looking for an off-road capable crossover.

The wrangler is a truck platform. The patriot is a car.Again. A truck or SUV based on a car platform can not truly benefit that much from RWD. It's an unnecessary cost that would keep DCX from selling the patriot at the price point they're aiming at.Any "Trail Rated" Jepe is "certified" by DCX as being able to safely maneuver and navigate the rubicon trail WITHOUT ANY MODIFICATIONS. It can't be that crappy off-road if it can handle the rubicon. The target markets for the two are entirely different. The patriot is supposed to be a baby cherokee/liberty, maintaining the aesthetics of its larger siblings. The compass is supposed to be fresh, unique, and have the apperance of being a crossover.

Doesn't matter one way or another. Front-drive, rear-drive, AWD, car, or truck. Anything even remotely close to Chrysler Corp I wouldn't drive anyway.

If my windows were not tinted I would put it on the back window ledge! Instead he sits on my desk at work. And yeah you know Joatmon, Jeep must think drivers of Compass' must be bobble heads since the headliner has indentations in it for even more head room! And why do I find myself bobbing my head as I drive this Jeep!

I can understand Caliber=Compass since they are different divisions and look different but I really do not understand Compass=Patriot! My god talk about competition within the same division! It is bad enough Jeep is giving away Liberty's and making tons of them, that alone is hurting Compass sales. Throw in the Patriot which I agree for the most part is the same/kind of vehicle and same features. I think this is a big mistake for Jeep! Big deal one is 12 inches longer on the inside, or what ever it really is! Is it that big to notice and say hey the Patriot is really what I need? I doubt it! Like you said Rob same engine, trans, stereo, speakers, dash looks the same, seats, wheels... Jeep kind of doing what GM needs to stop doing! Only Jeep is forming competition in the same divisions where GM does the same from one to the other!

And you know this from personal experience? You personally tested each model on the rubicon trail?
