e-Ram Ultra coming next year

Post by BlueCrush »

I got an e-mail from the e-Ram people when inquiring about new products for next year:Quote »Thank you for your interest in the e-RAM Electric Supercharger. Yes, just last week at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, we introduced our latest product (we will begin shipping January 15th). It is called the e-RAM-ULTRA. Between the re-introduction of the improved e-RAM-KIT and the new e-RAM-ULTRA, e-Racing Motorsports received high praise from the industry experts at SEMA, honoring e-Racing with a total of 7 awards for “Best New Product of 2007” at the SEMA show this year. For use as comparison, the current e-RAM-KIT uses a custom designed, purpose-built 833 WATT (1.2 HP) brushed electric motor to spool up the e-RAM to 25,300 RPM and develop 1 PSI of boost on all 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. The 6th Generation e-RAM uses the most powerful brushed electric motor currently available in its package-size. Typical gains from the e-RAM are 5% and the price is $299.98 The new e-RAM-ULTRA will not replace the e-RAM, but rather add to our product offering. The e-RAM-ULTRA was developed as a performance product for larger displacement V8 engines, providing a bolt-on 35 HP gain on a typical Mustang or Corvette engine. However, the side-effect was that it also creates larger performance gains on small engines. The e-RAM-ULTRA is a result of almost 4 years development on a custom brushless electric motor/controller package that uses 2000 WATTS (almost 3 HP), and spools up the e-RAM-ULTRA to 40,000 RPM, and generates 2.5 PSI of boost on all 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines, and even provides close to 2 PSI of boost on V8 engines up to 8.0L in displacement. Typical gains are 12% HP increase on smaller engines (under 5.0L), and 10% HP increase on larger V8 engines. Price for the new e-RAM ultra will be roughly $1000. The e-RAM-ULTRA shares the same physical dimensions as the existing e-RAM product. The e-RAM-ULTRA will require roughly 180 AMPS from the car battery. Again, since it is only activated at full throttle and for short duration, it will operate directly off of an existing car battery with no problems. Your starter motor uses roughly 300 AMPS when you crank your engine over, and your alternator just trickle-charges your battery back to its ready state. Same happens with the e-RAM-ULTRA. All of our internal R&D testing has been done with small motorcycle batteries. We are now completing a final circuit that will also handle any safety cut-off requirements.Just thought I would share. What do you guys think!

sounds pretty coolbut if you are to put that on say a base vibe, the ultra @ $1000 is only adding about 15 hp thats not alot of power per dollar. a CAI and exhaust can do that for half the price. i'm not sure i understand that last part about power requirements, so is it gona drain the battery or not? i should prob read it again but... mayb later

Sounds like a good product, but $1000 for an extra 15hp is way too much!

Is it just me, or in the theory behind this product, does this gizmo sound a lot like the infamous e-bay supercharg... er, leaf blower motors? Only on a much larger, more technologically advanced scale. I highly doubt those little e-bay crappy things can claim to pull a few hundred amps when they are in use.As tempting as bumping my car up to 123 HP may sound, I guess I don't need this. LOL! I don't think its itty bitty 90A alt would put up with all that extra load. Even if it worked 100% to the 12% they claim, that's still a chunk of change - $83.33 per pony. In the end, to me it seems like it would be more cost effective to pursue other options such as a supercharger...

drunken 1 psi was the old e-ram, this one does 2.5psi. I really want to see a dyno of this...NOT from them, from a person that did it independently.
