i have a 12 year old FIXED himilayen cat. latley he cant stop "humping" and meowing my wifes stuffed animails. my cat is fixed and i cant figure out why he is doign this. is this normal?????what can i do to stop this? my wife does daycare and the kids are starting to ask questions.
two words for you BITTER APPLE. Spray the cat with that once or twice while he is "getting frisky" with the stuffed animals. This will deter him from wanting to do that behavior in the future. He will think humping doll equals bitter spray in my face. It will turn the positive experieince into a negative one and that should top the action. P.S. don't let him see that the bitter apple spray is coming from you he will realize it and will still hump the dolls when you are not looking. Good luck.
I agree with the water spray. Maybee the cat needs this "cold shower" when he tries to get amorous with the stuffed animals. Also loud noises are effective in a lot of instances. As long as he learns to associate the unpleasant noise/water spray with the "humping" activity. You could also try booby trapping one of the stuffed animals, so that when he molests it, it causes something to make an unpleasant noise. This has the benifit of being effective even when you're not around.Thankfully (knock on wood), our cat hasn't demonstrated this "grab-a-hold-and-go-to-town" type of behavior yet.Bitter apple does not make a good punishment spray. Usually it is used to discourage the animal from licking/biting/chewing.
quote:Those sprays are not meant to be sprayed on the animal's face, it would hurt their eyes and nose. I think you could try putting the spray on the stuffed animals instead as a deterrent rather than a punishment. You could spray the cat with water when it's misbehaving, that's generally all you need to get a cat to stop whatever it's doing, I wouldn't spray your pet with something so harsh, they have very sensitive noses.I agree. Never spray your cat with the cat repellant sprays. Spray the object you are trying to get them away from. We spray our couches with it when they start scratching.

I've never seen my cats do it. My cats just lick each other.

He probably just figures that he's getting up there in years so he should have a little fun while he still can. He hasn't been getting into anyone's secret stash of Viagra, has he? Maybe you should rename the cat "Bob Dole"???
