I'm planning on getting my brake pads changed out in a few weeks or so, and it got me curious about upgrading the brakes. I'm thinking that I will just stick with OEM pads, but upgrade the rotors. Should I spend the $ and buy the brembo rotors, or go with something cheaper? Is brembo really THAT much better than the others?
Quite honestly, unless you're planning to race seriously, Brembos aren't worth it. You can buy any number of (not as expensive) replacement rotors and be perfectly fine from a street standpoint. Or you could just switch your current plan of attack, buying aftermarket pads and fluid for your stock assemblies (rotor/caliper).
alright, thanks. that's what I was thinking, but I needed someone to confirm that for me. and I was originally thinking of going with aftermarket pads, but I really like the looks of drilled or slotted rotors.
Which type of Brembo's were you thinking of? The slotted, cross drilled, or plain? I have the plain Brembo's on my other car (Focus) and they were slighly cheaper than the OEM ones (in Canada anyway). And even the plain Brembos offer great value. I've had them now for over a year (about 10,000 miles) on my car and they are holding up very well, stopping power is way better but also probably because I switched to Akebono ceramic pads. I'm planning on getting the same for the rear on my Vibe.
