What started your Vibe love?

Post by Kari »

This ended up coming to mind in the color thread in the news forum...so I thought I'd make a new topic for it since it might be interesting. What started your Vibe love? When did you first see it? Fall in love with it? What made you decide to buy one?Mine all started when I saw an ad in GMC Directions about 4 years ago. It had a prototype in the picture, and it was this lovely shade of Tony Stewart orange. So pretty. And a really cool looking car. At that point, I already wanted one, and it didn't even truly exist yet. The 'rents liked it, too. Then when the lease on the GMC ran out...lo and behold the Vibe DID exist. It just didn't come in that color. (The fusion is too brownish for me. Not bad but too much brown.) When the lease was coming to its end, I went out test-driving. I thought I wanted a silver PT Cruiser. I test drove one, and I was all sold on it. But I was still looking, so I went on down to the Pontiac dealership to look at Grand Ams. And there it was. The Vibe. In the most beautiful shade of blue I'd ever seen. And it looked even cooler in person than it did in the magazine so many years ago. I hadn't even been within 10 feet of it yet and I was already in love.So I took it out for a spin, and I was sold. I knew from then on that was what I wanted. I didn't even look at anything else. Now I've had my baby for almost a year...and I am still in love with this car.

Nova,That article in Car and Driver did it for me as well. I knew right there that it was the car I wanted. Took me over a year to finally pull the trigger.

My brother ( who works for GM ) showed me a picture about 2-3 years ago and it just blew me away! I had never really liked 4 door cars or wagons but something about that black Vibe just did it for me.I do not regret it at all and can thank my bro for pointing it out to me!

I saw it during the auto show as well. And I was like, finally a concept car that actually looks good. And I vowed to myself that I would own one. And I am very happy with my Shadow Kat.

Saw the Matrix and the Vibe at the March 2002 Columbus Auto show. At the time I wasn't thinking I would be in the market for a car for awhile, and was more taken with the Matrix than the Vibe. Then GM waived all that rebate cash plus $2,003 GM Card rebate in my face plus dealer discount in Jan '03 and I thought it was the golden opportunity to replace my second car (inherited '86 Buick). Initially was going for dirt cheap reliable transportationm - a GMC Sonoma pickup which I could buy for $9,600. Then the light bulb in my brain lit up and I thought of the Vibe. It was well worth the extra $4,000. Now the Vibe is our #1 car and the 2001 PT relegated to second place. Have come to appreciate the Vibe styling vs the Matrix and the Pontiac dealer is a lot closer.

i first saw the vibe from a promo brochure at my dealer. was in there all the time trying to figure out what to do to replace my tundra i was selling. they knew how much i loved toyota and didn't want to lose another sale to them. showed me one with the yellow GT on the front and i said, that's it! that's what i want! i didn't like the matrix style as much and knew i could get a better buy/financing thru GMAC. that was last October. I didn't get my Vibe until April this year, so had 6 months to ponder over what i wanted to do.... now i'm very happy with my decision and don't look back! (except when i see giant mud puddles and remember i can't drive thru them like i used to )

I was at a period where I needed a new car .. I am sort of a quirky person and I needed something that would fit my personality. I was strongly considering a VW Beetle but one day I saw a black Matrix and fell in LOVE with it.. I remember just being amazed on how the front side of it looked. Eventually I started to do some research and through that learned about the Pontiac Vibe. I stopped by a local Pontiac dealer and fell in love again... The Matrix all of the suddene felt like an ex-girlfriend. I test drove the Vibe 4 times and bought it all within a 4 week period from when I first saw it. This was my first new car purchase.......

It was not really love. I am rebelious against minvans and believe that SUV's(while nice) are a waste of money. I do not like the ride of a minvan. People say they ride like a car. BS they are made on a truck chassis and the seats are not as comfortable. The word VAN is just that. I have been waiting for GM to finally bring back out a functional vehicle for a small family. We only have one child for now and when the time comes for more then I will break down and buy a van. The vibe is sporty enough and fun to drive which sold us. I remember I used to drive my mom's cavalier wagon back in the day. Though ugly it did serve a wonderful purpose. I bought an Aztek for the same reasons. Ugly yet its funcitonality was the best out there for the money. Now that I get to drive the Vibe once in a while I look forward to taking it for a spin. It is not love yet but it is growing on me. It is more like a puppy love thing because the car is still new.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.

For me it was a trip up to Michigan from Ft. Bragg. I rented a car (all I had was a motorcycle and it was Dec.), and I got a Stratus. It was a long uncomfortable drive. We stopped in Indiana to see some family on the way. The next morning the car wouldn't go into gear (the safty line had some water in it that froze so I couldn't shift cause it thought the brake wasn't pressed in). So enterprise towed it away and gave me a ride to the closest rentle place, and they gave me a Vibe, saying it was all they had left. I will admit the fisrt time I saw it, I hated it, and I was about ready to say they have to find me a better car. But my fiance told me it was fine, we were late, we had to go. After maing fun of it for a bit, I strarted to like it. About 100 miles into the trip I was in love with it. I felt comfortable, the drive was smooth, and after driving for 300 miles, I only had to put in $19 of gas (it was cheeper then). I was hooked. After that trip, we started looking at cars and that was the top of my list. The rest is history....Although, I still kick my self in the (removed) for not getting the GT. We didn't get it, cause I didn't want to have a new baby and a stick living in DC.... but now I am not in DC and would have no problem with it.... stupid Josh....

i had a minivan and hated having a large car that didnt get good mileage, although it was awesome for hauling my college crap, but thats only twice a year. So i was looking at a new car, my dad said hey check out the vibe/matrix and i was like..hell no a wagon! and a ugly one (i had never seen them before ) and so ..i started looking and they were above my price range but all the good things about the vibe were too good to pass out..after i test drove it i couldnt stop loving it!

My Mom and I both needed new cars. We decided that they had to be 4 cylinders, 4 door, and we've never been disappointed with a Pontiac. My Mom's new car had to be small (In my mom's neighborhood, the parking situation is bad-donkeys park all over including partially blocking her garage.) Sunfire is 4 cylinder, but a 2 door, so that was out of the question. For myself I was admiring the Torrent, but when I went to look at one at the dealer, it seemed too big. I'm small, so the Torrent looked to me like a full size SUV. The fact that the Torrents only came in a V-6 discouraged me too. Every morning I'd go to work I'd see a Lava Vibe parked in the pay lot and one day it was parked in the loading zone, so I peeked in the window. I saw the chrome finish on the instrument panel and thought, "hey this thing is COOL! This would be perfect for Mom!" I was trying desperately to find one for her, but dealers either only had one on lot in standard transmission or none at all. My dealer did a "swap" from a Maui dealer to get Frosty over to O'ahu so she could test drive it. She didn't care what color it was; Vibes seemed hard to get, so we bought Frosty. Then when my used Firebird was in critical condition, she let me take Frosty to work. The first time I drove it I said "this is the one for me!"

The Aztek was my first love (when I was 14) then came the Vibe, "the little brother to the Aztek". I was actually hooked on the Aztek, but they stopped making them by the time I was looking for a car.

I was originally looking for a '02-'03 Grand Prix then I went & looked at some newer (used '05s) and one day as I was talking to the F&I manager I mentioned the "vibe" he says "oh, yeah! That would be great for you and I just got one in" drove home it home the next day. I feel like I rushed thru it again (as I did with the sunfire). Now that I look back I wish I would've waited for one with some more options but I'm still happy with what I have

It was the price. I believe it was one of the best vehicles I could buy for under $15k. I still like it after two years/70k miles, but it is just a commuter econobox to me.

When I 1st heard of the Vibe I had just bought a Hyundai Elantra (2001). I didnt want to take a hit by trading in too early so I had to wait. I too was also in love with the Aztek and would have bought one if it wasn't for the fact that they like returning to the dealership a little too much for my tastes. After 5 yrs of trouble free Elantra ownership I finally got the car I wanted all along. Something big enough to fit my tuba and my golf clubs in the back at the same time and still get over 30 mpg and still be able to seat 4! If Hyundai would have never stopped making the Elantra wagon I probably would have bought one of those. Their loss.

I was looking for a replacement for my 87 Dodge Shadow. I compiled a list of what I liked and disliked about it, and went shopping.I was looking for a vehicle that had the following:Hatchback, good headroom in the rear, comfortable seating in front and rear for someone my size 5'8", 4 doors, anything but a Honda. Then I went shopping.I almost bought a Protege 5 until I came across a VibeGT. Haven't looked back since. To be honest I wasn't initially thrilled with the appearance, but then I came across Genvibe, and that's when the fascination started.

I saw the prototype on some website, I think linked from a J-Body forum I was a member of way back in the day, like around 2001. It was right before I got married. I knew that the GT would be our first car! Of course, that's also when the GT was supposed to be AWD. A few years later, they were realeased and I took possession of one of the GT's in the area! Straight from the lot to the exhuast shop!

I remember seeing a fusion vibe in 2003 and thought they looked good. I started researching in july of 2005 and I was hooked. I new when I got my first new car that this was going to be it. I was on the Pontiac site building my car for a year. Then, I got a promotion at work. I decided I was going to start looking for a new car in Sept. I had my print out in had from the website and new exactly what i wanted. Then, In June 2006 i was driving home from a trainning class in my 1995 grand am when I was rear ended at a stop light. My trunk was crunched and unuseable. I was not a happy camper. I decided to go look at the 2006 Vibes and take a test drive. I found a beautiful Neptune Western Edition. Although i really thought i wanted Salsa. WELL, when the dealer offered me 0% I couldnt wait untill Sept. I drove her home that day. I was giddy for a week.

Zorren, Love the sig. I wonder how many here remember or have seen that movie. Classic! I fell for the Vibe back in Dec '01 when edmunds.com did an article on a two-tone Salsa Vibe. They had this picture of it screaming around a corner. I thought wow! A useful wagonlike car that handles like a sport sedan and is attractive to boot. I was in Love. The story in the Feb 02 issue of car & driver about a black GT sealed it. They compared its progressive thinking to the original mini. Never thought I could afford one but fate led me to the dealer in Nov. of 03 and got my new fusion vibe for $4k under sticker. Here's a link to the article. Look at the first pic on the right. Ain't she pretty?http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vd...ber=1Zorren, ....and to make a long story short...(in stereo) too late.

I became interested in the Vibe in '05 when they changed the front facia. I liked the more rounded Solstice look. I needed room for both my shepherds, but good fuel economy because of my 100 mile a day round trip commute. That ruled out an SUV. The Vibe was perfect. I liked the way the back seats fold completely flat so both dogs can lay down and be comfortable.I actually started liking the car more after I bought it. Go figure. It's more than practicle, it's really fun to drive. I also really wanted a real manual transmission. None of that auto stick crap, or paddle shifters. Give me a clutch and a floor shifter!

VIBE what???I was just moved back from AZ for school. and my lil 4-door riced out cavlier was dying on me.I met a very wonderful girl (now fiance) who introduced me to a friend who was on this site (no longer for some reason) and he had a 05 frosty base. i looked at it and was like Vibe??? oh! its pretty nice.I was in the process of buying an 05 civic, but family drama prevented it and my dad had messed up my credit.I was told the GM around my house had good deals, so i tried my luck there and well i ended up trading my car in for a platinum 05 base 5-speed. (first new car ever).I love this lil car... needs more power, but very reliable and fun and spacious!theres my story

Well, I had been tired of my Sunfire for quite some time, but knew I couldn't afford a different car--that didn't stop me from looking though. Each time I'd go home to my parents place I'd drive down through the dealer's lot, and one day I saw a Vibe and thought "Hey, that's cool--and different!" I decided that's what I wanted. The owner of the dealership is...was...one of my dad's best friends so I told him several times that I wanted a Vibe. Finally the Sunfire bit the dust and Dad was getting worried about me, so he asked his friend what was on the lot that would be affordable for me. He had JUST gotten this Vibe used like the day before and they were cleaning it out--he knew I was interested in it, so he brought that and a brand new Aveo up to my parents' house for me, and I drove home to check them out. Test drove the Aveo first, with my mom, and we both thought--YUCK. Drove the Vibe and that was it. Told them I wanted it, came back next week to do the paperwork and brought it home. I've been in love ever since.

The Vibe is different. I think that's why I like it. Not another cookie cutter car. And you know it's a Pontiac as soon as you see it. I would've bought it even with a GM engine. Have you hugged your Vibe today?
